But this is what I don't get about 'pound for pound.' How do we know what Hopkins would be like at 180? An extra 10 pounds doesn't seem like much, but it could make quite a difference as to how he performs. Not definitely, but possibly - probably, actually. I think it's reasonable to assume that at 180, Hopkins would be a little slower and less mobile, so it's a stretch to assume he doesn't lose to a degree some attributes. In this case it's not that unrealistic (this pound for pound matchup) but I don't think it's possible to match up fighters this way. Theoretically, that would mean a flyweight always pounds a heavyweight, assuming he loses none of his atributes at flyweight, but magically gains a 100 lbs. and power to go with it. Do you see what I'm getting at?

Agreed, Hopkins in his prime was basically a middleweight, and furthermore he never went as high as 180. I think this matchup is a tad nonsensical.
I understand what you mean, although Hopkins certainly didn't look any slower at light heavyweight when he fought Tarver at 175, and since its only 5 pounds more, i don't see it being that big of a difference. He would still have a great chin, he would still be crafty, ring intelligent and he is always in excellent condition. Marciano is shorter than Hopkins and i don't see him being fast enough to catch this kind of moving target consistently.
Styles makes fights, not pound for pound rankings. He is a great fighter, but i can see a quite a few 185-190 pounders beating him. I would give Jones and Qawi both shots at beating him.
He actually weighed 180 against Pavlik (in-ring weight), in classic times he would've been a heavyweight.... but yeah, you don't wanna put a 43 year old Hopkins in the same ring with Marciano.
Why does he have to be 43? Hopkins was always the same size throughout his career, he was just always in great shape and kept his weight down by running a lot and eating the right foods. When i think of a fantasy match up, i think about both fighters at their best.
Jones at 193 (which is what he weighed for Ruiz) would be an interesting proposition for Marciano. He carried the weight well and still retained about 85% of his speed. His reflexes were sharp and he could hit a bit at the weight too. Interesting matchup - more interesting to me than Marciano v Hopkins.

Its a big ask for Hopkins or Jones. Ezzard Charles couldn't do it and he was a middle come lightheavy cum heavy, who was accustomed to fighting heavies.
Marciano gets a UD, I think Hopkins D is too good for him to get taken out against a similar sized man. I also think Hopkins would carry 180 nicely, he was going to fight Toney at Cruser around 2003 too.
As you grow older, you naturally gain some pounds. I think even in his prime he was no more than 175. Regardless of that, he's only beaten one quality lightheavyweight (not heavyweight), and now people are picking him over an undefeated heavyweight after 49 fights against several hall of famers? Marciano will not show any respect for Hopkins' defence, and grind him down, the same way he did Moore.
For Christ Sake.... This is lame..... Why even consider this "Hops-Marciano" event even in a dream?? Look, I like and admire "Dream" fights myself.. But for cryin' out loud, make them matchable to a degree.... Even in a dream, Marciano steamrolls B-Hops to death....
