The final and correct answer: Calzaghe went down three times: Vs. Mitchell Vs. Salem Vs. Hopkins AND... He had Mitchell down TWICE Once was a solid left seconds into the first round. The second was much later in the fight, though Mitchells gloves only grazed the canvas.
No you aren't. Or if you are, you don't know what a flash KD is. For a start, Salem simply was not a flash KD, nothing like it. Secondly I ask you, if roles were reversed and Calzaghe had dealt Hopkins that exact same KD in the 1st, would u still say it was flash? Of course you wouldn't. When someone goes down on their arse/back and the count goes to six, that is clearly not a 'flash' KD.
Much later in the fight? Joe won by a second round stoppage after being knocked down early in the second, and knocking Mitchell down twice after.
To be fair, I regretted saying Salem after I posted it, and would retract that now. Hopkins, on the other hand, did catch Joe off balance and it wasn't a heavy punch or on the back of any particularly heavy punches. I would have said as much if roles were reversed and called it a flash kd.
Here are a couple of write-ups of the Salem fight: http://www.saddoboxing.com/56-joe-calzaghe-kabary-salem-round-by-round-coverage.html (Round by Round) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/3754228.stm Salem dropped Calz in the 4th, Calz dropped Salem in the 12th and was apparently close to stopping him.
Who is this directed at? Did someone ask what happened in the Salem fight? This thread asks how many times did Calzaghe get KD'd, and Salem KD'd him. No need to post a report to verify this, I think everyone is aware of it. Salem knocked him down pretty well.
It doesn't matter if he caught him off balance, a 6-count is not a flash KD. Hopkins punched Joe in the skull, Joe fell backwards, the referee counted to 6. That is simply not a 'flash' knockdown.
Some people just try re-write history, are you real boxing fans? Do you watch fights or skim through them?
Have to disagree here. This was the very definition of a flash KD. Joe was up in three seconds from the Bernard KD. Bernard punched him just a tad below between the eyes and then finished off the KD with his shoulder/body. The ref can (and usually does) count to 8 for any KD. The KD pissed Joe off and embarrassed him more than anything else. He was the agressor for the remainder of the round.
All true. But it was not a flash knockdown. It was a legitimate knockdown, just not an especially brutal or hurtful one. And ineffective aggression does not prevent a 10-8 round.
To my knowledge you are right although i could only name two of them. Wasn't all of them flash knockdowns? One thing you can guarantee with calzaghe is his iron chin, you MAY knock him down - but you wont KEEP him down!
