This is the official thread, and its definetely needed being that theres mixed thoughts about this topic in numerous threads throughout the forum. At SMW, 168, prime for prime, in a 12 round bout, who would win, how, & why?
Jones by KO. If a washout version of Jones knockdown Calzaghe in round 1, imagine a prime Jones. Jones was simply to good. Calzaghe is great but Jones was extremely great.
I pick Roy Jones by KO, and if not KO then UD. If the fight goes the distance I think Jones would take off 2 or 3 rounds to rest, therefore letting Joe steal 2 or 3 rounds. But Jones could KO Calzaghe at anytime being that Calzaghe would stalk Jones and would be vunerable to getting caught by a bomb from Jones. I think Jones' entertainment(playing around) in the ring would upset Calzaghe & pursuade him to apply even more pressure, luring Calzaghe into his trap and landing a big hook a at allnd KO'ing Calzaghe. I cant see Jones losing this match at all, unless he were to be disqualified & I cant see Calzaghe beating Jones at all.
Calzaghe by tight points decision. Probably knocked down a couple of times, with Jones on his arse once (JC used to be a bigger hitter). Winning purely by volume of punches landing and angles used.
Too skilled, too fast, south paw. Very focused, He's not one of the those cops, fireman that jones fgouth. Calzaghe is better than jones.
Jones outdoes Calzaghe on his way to beating him by decision. If Joe does things like sticking his chin out to showboat, a prime Roy capitalizes and puts him down, maybe out.
Not sure, but it would be a ****ing brilliant fight. Would be interesting to see whether Jones would meet fire with fire and try to go toe to toe with Calzaghe. I'm not sure how they'd both approach the fight and which styles they'd implement, I'm also not sure when Joe's prime actually was. Was it when Joe was younger, faster, had more power, but seemed to have self doubt and personal problems? Or was it when he was less physically gifted, but started taking on big fights and winning them whilst looking very impressive?
No body could touch RJJ in his prime... I think people are forgetting how good he was back then. RJJ by KO.
