Ray was just too good. And Duran was a much faster and more technically sound fighter that Margarito, so that first fight in Montreal would have no relevance for this hypothetical matchup. Ray was far superior to PBF, despite what PBF would have you believe. Ray was a STRONG welterweight.

PBF couldn't carry Ray's jockstrap. Leonard a beast, he was just so fast, but he also packed a lot of power. It's no slight on Margarito that Ray would demolish him, he was arguably the best 147lb fighter that ever lived.

I actually think Leonard could get Margarito out of there. Watch some of Leonards knockouts: Ranzany, Price, Finch. He had explosive speed/power and was one of the most ruthless finishers ever.

....and the most brutal KO vs Davey Green. The point is he was an explosive puncher at 147 and hit guys with punches they didn't see, a deadly combination.

Welterweight Hearns against Margarito would be fun while it lasted, but I think Tommy had too much power as well. He had that pulverizing right cross.

There are really no contests were the current WW's, have a chance against the top guys in the early 80's. Only Mayweather may have a chance, and that would be against Palomino or Cuevas. Forget Duran, Leonard, Hearns or Benitez.

Actually, I think Margarito is 'live' against Hearns at 147. Tommy couldn't take to many hard punches at that weight without going down. Still favour Hearns to outbox him and get a late stoppage though.

Ray was the complete package, whereas Hearns punch resistance wasn't the same as Rays.

If Leonard didnt TKO him he would shut him out but I think he busts him up bad & the ref waves it off with his shirt covered in blood splashes.

    Margarito`s blood splashes.

Hearns would have him outta there quicker than Leonard. Margo is all wrong for Hearns.

This is a classic example of how styles make fights. Margarito is one of my top 3 current favorites, but he is a guy who will always have trouble with speed. He simply does not have the speed or the footwork to keep up with SRL. Add in the fact that SRL was one tough son of a *****, and I think Tony would have his moments, but somewhere in the late rounds somebody stops this fight. SRL by TKO in 10-12 rounds.
