Who do you think really won Hagler or Leonard?

I think Leonard won..clearly ..I have to rewatch it and see Haglers body shots... I remember Ray Mancini ringside was saying Hagler won unless they ignore body shots

 

Leonard may have won.

Or Hagler may have won.


But neither guy won it clearly.



On the night, I scored it for Hagler.

Upon rewatching since, I have scored it for Hagler once or twice, Leonard once or twice and even a draw.

A great fight with, IMO, an uncertain result.

 

Sugar Ray Leonard won this fight in terms of winning a boxing match, much like Joe C defeated Hopkins. The expectations were that this fight would be determined from a knockout, much like the Hearns and Hagler. The action was good, but it was Ray's technical handling of how to win the rounds - the flurries in the last 30 seconds of each round. The timing of the fight was strategic as well, as Ray picked a time when Hagler was on the downslide, and older. Hagler had a big name and also Ray used psychology to get into Hagler's head - made him more mad than focused. Ironic how many people can watch the same fight and have such different views. Just like I felt Hopkins schooled Joe C, but it is hard to give Hopkins the win based on how few punches he threw and how many more Joe C threw. Leonard is one of the last fighters to create a strategy when fighting an opponent. Other than Mayweather, I think most of the fighters of today seem to just try to fight their fight and not make adjustments (i.e. like the rope a dope) to the weakness of the other fighter. I think a good recent examples of this would be Paulie against Hatton, Judah, and Roy Jones. You could see in their fights there just did not seem to be a plan, and especially no plan B once they were in trouble or losing in the fight. I think Cotto had a great plan against Margorito, but he just did not have the stamina or the ability to hang with Margorito's pace to complete it.

 

exactly. anyone that had Joe C beating B-hop on their card better have scored this fight for Leonard.

 

I watched the fight live on PPV and had no idea who would be announced the winner. It was that close to me. One thing for sure is Hagler screwed up big time in the first 2 rounds by fighting conventional instead of southpaw.

Hagler was landing the cleaner more effective punches.
Leonard was throwing more.
If pushed I would say Hagler was unlucky not to win.

 

I voted Leonard, but a draw would have been the best outcome. It was that close.

 

Hatton vs Collazo was a ***** to score as well.
