"I'm going to send Pacquiao out there to fight three minutes of every round. Just like we fought Barrera the first time - we knew he couldn't keep up with us, and I feel Oscar will be the same way. If we fight for three minutes of every round Oscar won't be able to make it through that. We're going to start fast - I'm going to send Manny out there quick."

    Freddie Roach, December 2008

If Pacquiao is durable enough to keep rushing De La Hoya without having to make too many adjustments, or get himself hurt, is it unthinkable that he somehow swarms De La Hoya with enough activity and scoring to win in a logical scenario? It certainly seems to match up with what is popularly understood about De La Hoya.

Pushing DLH from a stamina standpoint is probably the right thing to do but I don't think it changes the result. As Shake eloquently points out in another thread, Manny's style will open him up. And when DLH starts to connect, Roach's full pressure game plan will not be viable anymore

Very much so... Roach has been with both guys on the pads, he knows how hard De La Hoya hits - he has to be assuming Pacquiao can take the punches.

The main issue here is how well manny's power carries up to WW and how oscars punch resistance is affected by coming down in weight. In order for Roach's pressure plan to work, manny has to be able to wear hoya down with plenty of body shots. Another thing that seems to have been overlooked by Roach is, what if oscar is faster at WW? If he can match pac in the speed of hand department this fight is gonna be over very quickly.

The problem with that is that Pacquiao is going to be getting hit like he never has for thos full three minutes.

What if De La Hoya's punches are weaker below his natural weight? ;)

LOL, agreed, that's why I'm betting De La Hoya. The odds.

Its the only "viable" option, this isn't Mayweather we are talking about. Pac's only chance is to outwork De La Hoya and the only way that is possible is if he can genuinely take some of Oscar's shots, which isn't likely.

Odds are looking very good for a De La Hoya bet right now, surprisingly close to be honest. Theres really no incentive for a punt on Pac.

I wouldn't touch Pacquiao unless they gave me 7-1 at least. You got to pay me to be stupid.

It's hard to rush someone for 3 minutes of every round when you are getting tagged with good hard counter shots. Wasn't that Mayorga's plan also again DLH? This strategy is much easier said than done. Pacman will need to adjust, and he will have to do it very soon after fight begins, Roach better be ready for it.

Exactly.. I think the point is, there really is only one possible gameplan includes huge risk. If I were Freddy Roach, I would think back to the time Bernard Hopkins landed that tapping jab to Oscars body, and Oscar went down like a sack of ****.

So, what Manny has to do is take a huge gamble and try to land the lead right hook to Oscars body, because this is going to be the first thing available if he ever manages to get past Oscars jab. Thing is, he jumps out of the frying pan and into the fire with this strategy, as the next thing in line when a southpaw throws a right hook to the body, is the counter left hook..

If he tries to fight from the outside, Oscar can beat him with the jab alone due to the reach advantage. This is a circus fight, like watching a Klitchko beat up an undersized, blown up light heavy.
