Do you guys think it makes much of a difference which trainer, DLH or PBF etc etc have? I mean these guys know themselves better than anybody right and certainly don't need to be taught how to fight? How much of a difference do you think a trainer can make? Just some suggestions for discussion - Izzy v Marquez- roach had Vaquez for the first fight in which Izzy lost, but who then won the two subsequent bouts with a different trainer - how much do you attribute the victory to his trainer?
I reckon it depends on the fighter. Sometimes guys get into the ring and get into a rut and need someone from the outside looking it to give them adjustment advice. Some guys, like Roy Jones, just ignore their trainers, but others are given good advice and clearly benefit from a quick change in the ring.
A very good question. When a trainer takes over a seasoned fighter, he can't change his style. A new trainer makes very little difference in terms of the style of the fighter he is training, but some fighters need a change. You can tweak a few things, but ultimately the fighter is pretty much set in his own style of fighting.
A capable trainer can make a slight difference, but most of the people as well as most of the fight fans overestimate and overrate the role of a coach. A disciplined top fighter will make it anyway. It does make a difference to have a top trainer in your corner, but the fighter has to win the fight in the ring.Dedication, determination, motivation, and the desire to win a fight are as important as a good coach. I ve seen quite a few fighters with excellent coaches losing a fight to an unknown fighter from a far away country with a mediocre coach in his corner. A good coach is important, but your coach doesnt fight in the ring.
