Again, i'm not saying Calzaghe is a knockout artist or anything, but the accuracy, volume and speed of his punches have had their effect on every fighter who before hand said they wouldn't be bothered by slaps.

Some corners can be good awful at times but I suppose a prime RJJ didnt need a cutman

This is a point, I'd simply tell them being hit in the face hurts, and 1 of those shots isnt doing anything. Plus the unexpected shots are the worse, I was worked the pads with my girl and she caught me flush on the jaw by accident it bloody hurt, and I've taken shots without flinching from seriously bigger punchers. JC has allot of speed on his shots and some will be unexpected but overall its the overwhelment of 100punches a round taking its tole

JC is never someone I'd show my future kids footage of fearing they may try and copy some of that god awful punching technique

Yeah, that is exactly right. I never noticed before, but if you go through Jones fights his corner is just telling him "keep doing what you're doing". I guess at the end of his career he needed a bit more overall.

You seem to be saying what I feel - Calzaghe looks a God-awful puncher but is affective.

I just got my ass handed to me by an 11 year old girl from Hungary. Still not as bad as being stunned by a girl punch though. :yep

No we shouldn't. You can't judge a guy based on rules and perameters that did not exist while his career was in progress.

I don't recall him getting very much **** for not having matches with those guys, and frankly I think he managed to clean up the SM division fairly well before advancing to LH. Mikkel Kessler is the concencus best since Calzaghe's departure. You're also throwing a lot of **** in there about prospects, robberies, or failed unifications. These things can be said for a lot of champions. Marvin Hagler surely dominated the middleweight class, but his best fights were against men rising in weight, and he even recorded a loss to a man who hadn't fought in three years, plus was making his MW debut. There are also some who felt the Duran fight was close enough to be a robbery, but why make an issue out of a mere footnote?

Christ, he fought something like 13 times during that period and they were all title fights. Are just going by what the ring had them ranked, or are you at least willing to acknowledge the fact that he had an obligation to defend against men ranked by the sanctioning organizations who owned his belt(s)?

    Then theres:

He wasn't fighting in the same weight classes as those men were when these proposals were made, so how in the hell does that effect his standing as a supermiddleweight? Jones, Tarver and Dawson have been fighting at lightheavyweight for the bulk of their careers, and Jones has been there for at least 12 years or more. Dawson was for the most part, nobody prior to maybe 2006. Pavlik was a middlewieght not a supermiddleweight, and didn't truly make his mark until he defeated Jermain this past spring. These fights don't mean much when talking about what type of fighter he was within his natural weight class.

Should Hagler have risked his winning streak by moving up to face Michael Spinks? Frankly, I think that fight would have had a higher interest level from the fans as well as possesing greater historical importance than say Calzaghe vs Tarver, wouldn't you agree? Should Wladimir Klitschko say to David Haye; " don't bother moving up in weight, I'll slim down and meet you at cruiser? "
