I've posted this here rather than in the British forum because I think that David Haye is no longer someone who can be thought of as a purely British prospect. He outgrew the domestic British scene a fair few years ago, arguably when he won the European cruiserweight title, definitely once he'd beaten Jean-Marc Mormeck.

I wanted to post it right after the Monte Barrett fight, but after giving the forum a bit of a scan I realized the general forum was too frenzied and vitriolic to try posting a serious Haye thread in. Maybe it still is? We'll see.

I want to let all the americans, and all the other people who hail from the vanquished nations of the earth outside of the colonies, in on the secret with David Haye. All the people on the British forum know this already, and now David Haye has become internationally recognised as a Heavyweight prospect it's time to reveal the secret to everyone.

I saw David Haye's pro debut. It was live on the BBC, off the back of his abortive campaign for gold at the Manchester commonwealth games in 2002. Before the fight started Richie Woodall, former WBC super-middleweight champion and Joe Calzaghe victim, gave his analysis. He said that that Haye was a powerful and athletic fighter with a deadly right hand and a suspect chin. He said that he will probably go on to knock a few good names out, and more than likely be knocked out himself. Since that day my analysis of Haye has barely deviated from what Woodall said that night.

The opponent was Tony Booth, a journeyman who's record at the time was 41-72-8. That's 121 fights. His current record is 52-105-9. There were people at ringside saying quite openly that Haye was being reckless in fighting a 100 fight veteran in his pro debut, and worse, a veteran who had been known to knock out good prospects. Tony Booth has fought absolutely everyone who's anyone in the UK from 175lbs upwards, go to boxrec and see yourself.

It makes me laugh when some people on the board flail around like histrionic gays high on angeldust screaming "Haye's got no chin, he's gonna get knocked out, he's got a low guard." Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with you, but the difference is here that everyone in Britain who follows boxing has known this about David Haye since the day he first went pro. The posters most guilty of this behave as if they are privy to some secret knowledge about Haye, some weakness that they have spotted and thus feel compelled to shout at the top of their lungs about.

Let me explain clearly. Saying that David Haye has no chin and will get knocked out at some point against a big heavyweight puncher is like saying that at some point in the next 48 hours I'm going to have a ****. You're almost certainly right, but it doesn't make you nostradamus for pointing it out.

All the way through Haye's career the opponents have been of a higher standard than the usual prospect. Compare his resume with that of Enzo Maccarinelli and you shall see that. At nearly every fight he's had, including the one's with journeymen right at the start of his pro career, there are people saying that he may well get knocked out here and he has bitten off more than he could chew. I knew a guy who put 100 pounds on Haye to get knocked out by Arthur Williams. His reasoning was "Haye's only had 9 fights, he's insane to get in the ring against a veteran like Williams this early in his career." I dont fault his logic for a second. When he fought Carl Thompson there were the same doubts, but on that occasion the doubters had their day.

No matter. Haye went straight back into it and fought Glen Kelly, former Roy Jones victim and ranked around the top 20 at cruiserweight, and destroyed him. Another risky fight, and another win for Haye. And so it continues. Gurov was a risky fight. Mormeck was. Enzo Mac was. Monte Barrett was a really dangerous fight. Every single one of those fights had reasonable intelligent people saying that Haye could lose, and Haye won.

Sooner or later Haye will get knocked out, and all the pouting ***gots who prophesized this as though it were unexpected will gloat and say "I told you so, for I am the god of boxing analysis, bow down unto me and massage my prostate whilst I jerk off to video of Larry Merchant pushing that guy" whereas the reaction on the British forum will be "Haye got knocked the **** out. Awesome fight, can't wait to see him fight again!"

In conclusion, stop saying that David Haye is going to get knocked out. We know. We knew years ago. Infact he already has been knocked out. Get over it and enjoy the ride, coz once he's gone you'll be stuck with boring eastern european robots and fat americans. Appreciate the excitement whilst it last, coz it won't last long.

Apologies for length, I know that most opening posts in this forum are 2 sentences written in txtspk and Lolcats, I hope this isn't out of place here.

a long post that said a bunch of crap most of us already know. We know that everyone knows that Haye is gonna get knocked out eventually.

Haye is still a good fighter, despite his shaky chin

I dont think true boxing fans from America are doubting Haye's speed, power, and overall boxing ability. His chin is his only weakness but even his chin hasnt been proven to be really weak. Yes he was KO'd but he also ran out of gas and punched himself out, and he wasnt as good at training and conditioning back then. He just may be able to take a decent punch now a days we really just dont know for sure. No one has seemed to be able to really rock him in his recent fights. I know a Klitschko has the power to knock him out but then again they have the power to KO anyone if they can catch them.

Not all americans are anti Haye. I don't like heavyweights much but Haye has kept me watching. So at least the guy is pulling guys like me turned off to the division into it. That's a good thing. He does bring excitement we haven't seen in a while.

If Haye get's knocked out he'll get straight back up and continue on his journey.

Look what he did when Thompson stopped him so ealry on in his career.

Everyone thought he was mad when he told them he was still going to be world cruiserweight champion and he proved em all wrong!

Even if he gets stopped again there's a good chance that he'll get back up, dust himself off and still becomeworld champion at heavyweight.

He's not the type of fighter to get KO'd then walk away.

The man has heart, comes to fight and is very dangerous although vulnerable too.

    Agreed.

As I've said in previous posts - David Haye himself in interviews accepts he has a shaky chin.

Unfortunately a minority of posters on here are always out to see a fighter get 'KTFO' through personal dislike, whether it be Haye, ODH, PBF, Pavlik, Hatton.... the list goes on.

Haye has basically admitted on his own that his chin isn't that great so there really were no secrets. I find it rather interesting when a fighter is candid enough to point out a weakness that he has rather than try to cover it up.

Would any of the Brits here like to see Haye vs Harrison, or would you fear Harrison might win?

I think Haye is fun to watch, but I think he's chinny, lacks some long term stamina, and has a leaky defense.

Once he fights a real heavy, I don't expect Haye to be gun's blazing.

Can Haye win a title? Sure, but I don't fancy him to do it vs either Klitschko, or Chagaev.

Harrison win? His chin is far worse than Hayes, and Haye has more power. Plus Haye is a better boxer, has a lot more heart and shows a lot more bravado in the ring, rather than just at press conferences. Not a good equation for Harrison.

No interest in seeing the fight.

Define 'real heavyweight'. Barrett and Bonin weren't 'real' heavyweights now? How many real heavyweights are there? Not top drawer to be sure, but they were certainly real heavyweights.

    Big puncher=British=excitement=bigmouth???

There are quite a few big punchers out there who dont have a British passport and dont tend to belittle their fellow fighters and talk trash.

For a fight fan who doesnt stem from Britain it is tough to stand that unpleasant personality when listening to his senseless blabla. He reminds me of another "likeable" British based fighter, the African Herbi Hide. They have some things in common.Thats for sure!
