Antonio Margarito vs. Tommy Hearns...

Actually, Tommy Hearns may have been one of the few to KO this ****in' animal. I've seen Margo take some solid ****in' shots though.

Pipino Cuevas had atrocious defense!!! Not to mention slow handed and telegraphed.

He did have more power than Margo though, that is for sure.

Margo is a better boxer, taller and stronger than Cuevas.

margarito couldnt deal with paul williams...so what makes you think he could handle hearns

 

same way you can't talk tommy or floyd to blacks...they slip from the grease on their head and go right down to their ass crack which leads to their balls...

 

that's funny you bring that up, roldan had a lot of success with that over hand right, which is one of margo's specialties....the only difference is that margo doesn't get happy with it, he follows up with body shots and uppercuts...:deal

 

That make any since, because if Hearns fought to day fighter he would also be able to use today rules , so he could easily step in the ring close to 160 instead of his dehydrated stated of 147. your second example is more of a reality . In any Case Hearns is a fast starter and margarito a slow starter, which would make all the difference in the fight , Margarito put accumulative damage on a fighter of a course of a fight depending how sturdy a fighter is, Hearns on the other hand can hand out massive amount of damage in a short time which make all of the difference .. even if margarito is able to survive the first wave of Hearns assault , I doubt he will have enough bother hearns after soaking up a beating so fast.

 

My man, I'm not one of those guys who dick ride throwback fighters against new era fighters but really, Tommy Hearns was one of a kind. He was a physical freak, he had tremendous hand speed, great boxing skills and devastating power. Who can you think of with the same combination of traits as Hearns? I am not going overboard to think he blasts out anyone in history but he was a phenomenal physical presence and boxer/athlete/puncher of the likes we haven't seen since.

Has Margarito ever fought a 6'2" welterweight? Oh yea, he has...how did that turn out? Now subtract about 20 punches per round, add some more speed and a hellacious right hand in the mix and you have Hearns. Does that bide well for Margarito through 12 rounds? Probably not. Again I refer back to his fight with Juan Roldan. The guy was never stopped, punched like a mule, had a jaw like titanium and came forward nonstop throwing leather...Hearns took him out in a few rounds.

No matter how great someone's chin is, if you are taking sharp, fast accurate bombs over and over something's got to give. Even if Marg is uncanny enough to walk through that fire, he still has to deal with a 6'2" welterweight with tremendous boxing skills. Just a bad matchup for him.

 

you also notice Hearns dug in a swift left hook to the body of the pressure fighter Roldan that stopped him in his track , followed up right hand of his own. Not only that Juan was a extremely strong middle weight , a lot stronger then margarito .

 

lesser fighter like who ? and how does Margarito stack up against these so called lesser fighter, because remember Hearns fought at time when the sport was saturated with top talent from 130 to 175 there were no push overs.

Roldan was also much bigger, stronger, and more powerful than Margarito, and that fight was at 160, where Hearns's legs had stiffened up quite noticeably and he'd become a mare stationary boxer. At 147 he was capable of using top notch lateral movement when needed, and was pretty much impossible to get ahold of for any extended period of time. And even if you did, you had to contend with his bone-brunching power.

Also, Roldan was much wilder in general than Margarito, who's quite reserved in his approach but wide with his punches, so he wouldn't have caused the same problems.
