if the p4p rankings didnt exist would we be watching de la hoya vs pacquao which is basically a freak show.
boxers should stick to there weight class or one above or bellow instead of chasing the number 1 p4p guy.
all this does is create miss matches which is no good for the sport.
we saw it with hatton and mayweather. fair enough mayweather is by far the better boxer but we all know how hatton struggles at a heavier weight.
i just think this is a worrying trend and this fight is just the start of it.
i would rather be watching pac v jmm instead of this circus on saturday night.
you got to ask yourself if pac wasn't recognised p4p No1, would money bags of even fought up this stupid fight.
i hope this makes sense and my point comes across as i am a little drunk and am probably ranting.
i shal be giving this circus act a miss and watching the froch fight instead for free on itv. woo hoo.

JMM is getting too old to be chasing Pacquiao... if Pac beats DLH and then proceeds to fight Hatton and PBF in his next two fights, that puts JMM on the backburner until the start of 2010 minimum. More like the end of 2010 because PBF has to get called out of retirement, spout some bull**** about staying retired to hype up the fight, finally COME out of retirement, train, etc...

p4p rating suck because people have turned a MYTHICAL ranking system into a very real one. Basically p4p means taking two different fighters from different weight classes who would never realistically meet and regardless of size and power debating who would win based on SKILLS. Hence why most p4p kings are of a skilled based style. Only in this climate can a brawler be considered p4p no.1. I Chose to ignore p4p ratings years ago because fan obsession has turned it into a ranking system with no rules, rules which idiots make up along the way.

    P4p system is flawed because

    1) not every one has an equal chance of a fast ticket into the rankings. Ie, Ivan Calderon, the man is a GENIUS in the ring. Is it the mans's fault he does not have a recognised rival to beat like Margarito did Cotto. (This is just an example folks before i get 'Labelled' a hater) And NO Margo is No where near as skilled as Calderon......

    2) To prevent Monopolising the p4p ratings i propose that fight fans should pick one fighter from one weight division, this prevents people fighting for p4p spots. Yet allows fighters to move up and down with less regularity bringing back the prestige of being in the list or even no.1. (ITS A MYTHICAL RANKING SYSTEM FOLKS

    3) Its a extremely sloppy way of analysing a fighters true greatness. for example, Fighter A) beats fighter B) he must be p4p no.1. STYLES MAKES FIGHTS. P4p means who's style is the MOST likely to win or come up trumps most regulary against different foes.

    4) And NO, someones p4p belt can not be on the line, i will tell you why because its MYTHICAL and there is no real belt. Should p4p no.1 lose his position is under consideration and depending on how his NEAREST rivals recent activity move up or down accordingly.

    5) P4p should not be used in very REAL fights as it is MYTHICAL. Hope fans understand the MYTHICAL aspect of this now.

This is very true, fighters exploit there 'status' to get BIG money fights and fans sit there and lap it up.

When I saw Sky putting DLH at number 7, I knew they were grasping at straws with this ppv.

I like the way OP posts a rant about why P4P rankings should be ignored for the good of boxing in post one and then, in post four, argues with someone elses opinion of where a boxer should be placed in P4P ranking terms.

Some people just can't help themselves.
