Wlad is building a pretty impressive resume... Schulz (robbed against old Foreman) Barrett Byrd Botha (had been used by Lewis as a title defense) McCline TOS Williamson (who beat McCall) Sam Peter Chris Byrd Calvin Brock Lamon Brewster Ray Austin (who beat Golota) Sultan Ibragimov Tony Thompson *Hasim Rahman If Wladimir beats a couple more top10 contenders, Haye or Povetkin and Valuev or Chageav...we can start talking about an extremely good heavyweight career.
LOL this is funny, the Quitschkos are BUMS. At least ol china chin has fought some decent fighters so he might get in but as for Vitalia the fraud, no chance, his resume stinks.
I think Vitali had all the tools, he lanquished for years in Europe fighting nobodies. It wasn't his fault, he would have fought anyone.:bbb Dumb ass managers . But you can rest assure he would have given Tyson/Lewis--Lewis without the luck of the cut-- hell when he 25. He would have KO'd Bowe, beat Holyfield. Vitali ranks right up there with the best!:good
If Wlad beats Rahman, Povetkin (his mandatory), Arreola, or Haye, and Valuev...this would be his resume at heavyweight: -Schulz -Barrett -Byrd -Botha -McCline -Williamson -Peter -Byrd -Brock -Austin -Brewster -Ibragimov -Thompson -Rahman -Povetkin -Valuev -Arreola or Haye Compare it to Lewis' resume. -Ruddock -Tucker -Jackson -Bruno -Morrison -Mercer -McCall -Akinwande -Golota -Briggs -Holyfield -Grant -Tua -Botha -Rahman -Tyson -Vitali I think this makes Wlad clearly inferior to Lennox Lewis, but definitely better than many heavyweights from previous generations. Just to have a better idea, here are Vitali's best wins: -Herbie Hide -Kirk Johnson -Corrie Sanders -Danny Williams -Sam Peter And Floyd Patterson's (a Top15 heavyweight of all time): -Tommy Jackson -Archie Moore -Tommy Jackson -Roy Harris -Brian London -Ingo Johansson -Ingo Johansson -Tom McNeeley -Eddie Machen -George Chuvalo -Oscar Bonavena
I think Wlad's resume is excellent in truth - taking into account the quality of opposition available. The one thing he lacks is the truly big fight with Lennox - the last great heavyweight. Whether he won or lost (which he would) a good showing would probably rank higher than plenty of his wins. Haye is likely to be a top class heavy, but compared to Lewis he is nothing.
Lewis resume would still be better but keep in mind that Lewis is a top 5 ATG Heavyweight too. IMO Lewis is third, behind Louis & Ali, but that's of course debatable. Joe Louis was a great HW but his era was very weak as was Marciano's.
The biggest black mark against Vitali is Chris Byrd. OK he was dishing out a beating, and a dislocated shoulder is a bad injury - but Danny Williams once dislocated a shoulder mid fight and won by stoppage. Admittedly the standard of opponent was WAY inferior (much more inferior to Williams than Byrd was to Vitali) but all Klitschko would have to do is run - his chin would take a KO out of the equation. He should have sought a rematch at some stage to clear that one up!
If both Klitschkos retired tomorrow they'd still both be HOF bound simply for the fact that they were the first brothers to simultaneously hold World HW titles & on the strength of Wlad's resume & the fact that Vitali came back to win the title after nearly 4 years of retirement.
I believe the injury was a torn rotator cuff which is more painful & a greater risk of permanant damage, in most cases.
I also have Lewis as #3 ATG at heavyweight. He has much better wins than Larry Holmes, and dominated for almost the same time.
