Even so I can understand the argument that a true fighter would never bow out...................but in retrospect Vitali did the right thing since he went on to win the WBC title, twice.
Hmmmm yeah - he didn't have to throw any punches to win the fight, it was already in the bag, or just fight one-handed.
Well when i was training for the Army i tore my Achilles tendon. Completley different injury but if a torn rotar cuff feels anything like what i had to go through he needed to pull out.
HOL is a lock for both. They should be planning thier careers towards becoming ATGs. Wlad should make hi mandatory agaisnt Povetkin and fight Haye. vitali should make hi mandatroy againt Gomez and clean up the WBA line with wins against Valuev and Chagaev. Then again, with boxing politics, the WBA fights probably won't happen.
Neither Klitschko will ever fight for the WBA title. There is a silly rule that Ruiz always has to be fighting for the WBA title - he won't beat either Valuev or Chagaev, but will get about six more goes. Why Lennox, why, didn't you ****ing destroy the journeyman and force him to retire.
Holmes dominating during one of the weakest eras for HW's. He had title defenses against the likes of Tex Cobb for crying out loud. Lennox's era was much better with Tyson, Holyfield, Tua, Ruddock, Golota, etc. One could argue that Lewis was the best HW head to head in history.
Byrd is not an easy fighter to hit & KO, especially if you're suddenly a one-armed boxer. Vitali could've tried to coast but Byrd is also fast and imagine the stain on your legacy if you're actually KO'd by Chris, which isn't impossible based on accumilated damage. Even worse the injury could become much worse if jerked as a defensive reflex, that may have cost him his future career in the sport.
The brothers will almost certainly be inducted into the HOF, as they have been dominant heavyweights -- and champions -- for years. What's much less likely is that anyone will ever remember them as genuinely great heavyweights. They will probably always be regarded as a notch or two below true greatness.
I really do want Klits in the HOF at least for something. The world has never seen any dominant quality Eastern Euro fighters like them. Lets face it, a good ex soviet fighters are rare these days. At least Klits have done far more then Golota, Maskaev or Liachovich.
