This is the first fight where he lost in such a dominant way. He was always competitive. With Mayweather he won at least 5 rounds and was chasing him and forcing the tempo. With Felix Sturm he won 4 or 5 rounds and made it competitive. Even in his KO loss to Bernard Hopkins he made it close and competitive for 8 rounds before that fake body shot. In this one he lost every round and quit. Is it the age that has finally cought up to him. Is it the weight loss to 145lbs or is it the lack of motivation (beating Pac wouldnt get him a p4p rating despite Pac being #1 or #2)
I honestly believe Mayweather could have beaten DLH much worse than he did. He just adopted the safety first scenario and won clearly on points, he probably counted on a rematch and wanted to make it competitive. He must be really pissed at himself right now because the way Pac disposed of DLH makes the Mayweather win look pale in comparison. In short, I don't believe DLH was much worse last night than he was in the Hopkins and Mayweather fights. Those guys just didn't push it the way Pac did.
You are making a nice observation here. Perhaps, it is also becasue of the styles of Hopkins and Mayweather. But how can we justify his demolition of Mayorga?:think
Yup, of course the styles were a huge factor. Mayorga was never that good to begin with. Oscar is a good fighter mind you, he could still beat most fighters right now. It's just that he doesn't win fights against elite fighters. It's not a coincidence, he's just not good enough.
:rofl Well then three of his wins shouldnt have counted I mean he didnt beat Quartey, Whitaker and Strum:-((
I think it was the weight...he was severely weight drained IMO....he barely threw any punches. that was one of the most lethargic performances ive seen since chris byrd went down to light heavyweight
I thought DLH's weight was going to give him problems and weaken him, especially when he only gained two pounds and fought at exactly 147..
No question, agreed. On top of the weight, though, I think De La Hoya clammed all the way up intentionally for whatever reason. He stopped punching, even when he could have thrown punches. Beristain made it very clear at a certain point, and Oscar chose to respond to his instructions by throwing even less punches. Literally.
I agree, I wonder if they saw this in the camp. I'm just curious as to why in the world would you come down an extra 2lbs, specially when you will be losing muscle?
