I absolutely love watching this guy fight.. a better nickname would be
    lyoto "the shadow" machida.
his opponents end up looking like their fighting a ghost

Yea, the shadow is good nickname for him. Cause no matter how hard you try you can never catch up to him running.

I disagree with you about enjoying watching him fight- I find him boring as hell. He is very skilled no doubt- but he is boring as **** to watch. He runs constantly and just counters the whole time.

I'd rather watch someone with a bit less skill adn more action... last fight I watched was ages ago Penn vs Sherk, that was pretty good.

i can see how you would say he runs but i find his elusiveness fascinating and despite being on the defensive he always stays in or near the pocket.
the way i see it kalib starnes runs, machida avoids..

Who is that in your avatar by the way? looks like henry rollins.

the guy should be champ right now. it was pure bull**** that forrest had the title shot before he did. forrest was on a two fight win streak against hector ramires and shogun. shogun is a good win but hector? and prior to that he was ktfoed by jardine. machida is 13 and 0 with wins over stephan bonnar ,bj penn ,rich franklin, vernon white, soko, nak, david heath, sam hoger. he should have had the title shot and he would have out pointed page. machida should be but soon will be the champ.

Machida and Anderson Silva are my 2 favorite UFC guys.

I love his elusive and potshotting/sniping way of fighting.

"The Ninja" would be a good nickname too, I think.

I enjoy Machida. Some guys are boring, but Machida intrigues me. He's not going to knock you out, but his technique is so smooth...so flawless...that it's hard not to admire. It's like watching a master painter. The moves are so subtle, but if you're watching just right, you'll see the sheer brilliance.

Machida is great. He'll prove it against Silva..who hopefully pressures him. Reason he seems so boring is because his opponents also are so wary of engaging him knowing they will get smacked. Earlier, people still had the guts to mix it up with him, Bonnar, Franklin..and they both got demolished..No one dares now

Id love to see him and Anderson although it wont happen..He'll give Anderson a run for his money

I asked the question during one of the pre-fight Q&A sessions if the UFC was awarding championships as the most exciting or the best fighter. The question was in direct relation to Lyoto. Matt Hughes was playing spokesman at that time and gave me a non answer of, that is a good question and it is something that is always being considered.

A lot of fans hate his style but I appreciate it. Shows that you don't need to get your head knocked off to show how great you are.

I loved the fight against him and the African dude from Pride who came to the UFC with the predator helmet on, He also bet Rich Franklin in Japan as well, nobody really mentions this for some reason.
