He has done nothing but improve, through every weight class and fight... Something to think about that no one is really pointing out.
I don't know if I say he's really improved that much. He was always fast, relentless, exciting and throwing a large volume of punches. I thought he was still outboxed for the most part againt Marquez. He made De La hoya look bad because he was light years ahead of Oscar in speed. Pacquiao is also pretty unorthodox with his explosive movement. It's not like he started utilizing a Mayweather shoulder roll defence or a Holmes like jab. He fought the same way he always does which is good enough to beat just about anyone.
He did that through speed. I would bet that if he were to fight Marquez again he would fight the exact way he's fought in his prior fights and the fight would be close. If he's improved he should be able to outbox Marquez which I doubt.
True, and you make some good points. It does look to me like he's still polishing up and refining that unorthodox style as time goes on as well, though. While Pac once looked like a somewhat one-dimensional fighter who relied solely on physical advantages, he now looks like he's on the brink of mastering a style that not only gets the most out of his physical tools and natural aggression, but offers alot of versatility as well. His defense has come along quite nicely, and his head movement and parrying is better than I've ever seen it from him. He's using his angles better as time goes on as well. For his opponents, it's not an easy style to prepare to fight against particularly when you're dealing with a southpaw with the speed, power, instincts, and lateral movement Pac brings to the table. It seems like most fighters with that kind of speed (particularly southpaws) don't have the power to complete the package. JMM's got one of the only styles I'd say Pac's at a natural disadvantage against.
i don't think pac got outboxed in the second fight. he kept the fight very close and won more rounds than he did in the first fight. he won round 3, round 4, round 7, and round 10 clearly in my scorecard. the defining round would be round 1 which is very close. either fighter could have got that round and win the fight. in the judges view, pac got the first round hence the decision. This makes pac a very resourceful fighter in my opinion. not every fighter who had a style disadvantage against his opponent could muster enough resourcefulness to keep a fight like that very close. aside from counter-punchers like marquez, pac would have no trouble steam-rolling other fighters with different styles.
Marquez is my favorite fighter but you have got to appreciate Pacquiao. He' super aggresive, entertaining and will fight anyone. It seems like every fight he's in is with a top caliber fighter. I'm glad these two are around at the same time. There two fights are the best fights I have seen in years. I would love to see a third fight and finally see Marquez get the decision win.
if anything what has improved is his boxing brain he knows more now when to move and when to exchange, obviosly this comes with experience. If he does keep improving he will definetly become one of the best ever.
The guy is a special fighter, a once in a lifetime type of fighter. Also, Freddie Roach deserve TONS of respect here, Pacquiao was literally one-dimensional years ago, look how he changed him. Of course, this has a lot to do with Pacquiao having the tools and desire.
