and sasakul was a lineal guy though.... you dont just ko a lineal :good

shutting out no names is given. tkoing/koing/kding lineal champs and future hofmers is better. thats my preference.

A win over Hatton and over some top10 contender and I will put Pacquiao slightly ahead of Whitaker.

The fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao won't happen. Roach already said it.

I agree if he beats floyd he goes past whitaker and makes top 10 for me, however at the moment i am comfortable with pea being a little bit in front of pac

That is a bloody good post. Demonstrates how Pac continually tried to seek out the toughest challenges out there regardless of his tuneups,

Manny was 19 fighting in Sasakul's backyard. And I wouldn't call Sasakul a bum by any means. He was a very good champion. Before he met Manny, the Asian public was beginning to mention him in the same breath as Galaxy. Shame that much like Pong Wongkongjam, we never got to see what Chatchai could do across the pond against the top Latino flyweights and superfly kings of the day.

How many fights of Langford have you seen? How old are you? Where you around his time to know the odds for his big fights, how highly regarded the other fighters he fought was?

Thing with ranking older fighters to modern ones is that, you will have a completely different perspective. Guys you read about in books, wikipedia, hear about in documentaries are always gonna sound more mythical than guys you are watching live now.

    Whitaker's notable wins:

    -Roger Mayweather
    -Greg Haughen
    -Louie Lomeli
    -Jose Luis Ramirez
    -Freddie Pendleton
    -Azumah Nelson
    -Juan Nazario
    -Anthony Jones
    -Policarpo Diaz
    -Rafael Pineda
    -James McGirt
-Julio Cesar Chavez (actually a draw)
    -James McGirt
    -Julio Cesar Vasquez
    -Wilfredo Rivera
    -Wilfredo Rivera

    Pacquiao's:

    -Chokchai Chockvivat
    -Chachtai Sasakul
    -Ledwaba
    -Nedal Hussein
    -Jorge Eliecer Julio
    -Marco Antonio Barrera
    -Erik Morales
    -Oscar Larios
    -Erik Morales
    -Jorge Solis
    -Marco Antonio Barrera
    -David Diaz
    -Juan Manuel Marquez
    -Oscar de la Hoya

A couple more good names and Pacquiao can surpass Whitaker. Pacman is almost 30 years old and has time for those wins.

I wouldn't disagree with Minotauro. Langford could very well be exactly what the resume states. But like dangerousity says, it's hard to compare guys of different eras, especially when the footage and information we have now is much more prevalent. Then again, if you saw him live, you would definitely have more say than me in terms of comparing the two.

I've seen all footage available and I was talking about his resume which is far better here is a post I did earlier about his resume the only guys who can compare to fighting and beating this many quality fighters are Charles and Greb.

Joe Gans (a prime Gans against a green Langford)
    Joe Walcott
    Jeff Clark
    Jack Blackburn
    Kid Norfolk
    George 'Elbows' McFadden
    Sam McVey
    Harry Wills

(Langford was almost totally blind at this point and still managed to stop ATG middle

    )
    Bill Tate
    Joe Jeannette
Jack Johnson (he lost but as a light middle he took an ATG heavy the distance)
    Gunboat Smith
George Godfrey (Godfrey was green at the time)
    Fireman Jim Flynn
    Young Peter Jackson
    Philadelphia Jack O'Brien
    Dixie Kid
Stanley Ketchel (some reports suggest this should be a win for Sam.)

I probably missing a few he beat ATG in every weight he fought from lightweight to heavy not to mention most of those names he beat on more then one occassion. You could make an argument for Greb or Charles having the best resume but right now I'm leaning towards Sam.

its interesting to me how people are embracing lil pac - and giving him much props and kudos in terms of all time p4p and historical recognition- yet how reluctant all were to give mayweather the same ATG recognition.

I think manny s jump in weight- to beat such a larger man- and overcome such unsurmountable odds- is what p4p greatness- and true historical greatness is all about. Floyd had some great challenges- ad fought some tough guys- but he never took that one fight- margarito at 147 nor cotto at 147 - when he could have- the fight that had him as the underdog - or atleast even bet- that would have given him so much more credibility. He never took the chances- that brave manny dosent mind taking. mind u i think floyd is the best boxer in the world- i think god gave him the best hand- but manny has played his hand so much better- into the minds and imaginations of the boxing public.

The fact that you consider Haugen and Ramirez no-names shows your lack of knowledge and how highly your opinion should be considered.

And I seriously doubt you've even seen the Sasakul fight the way you're talking about it. You probably are unaware of how badly Pac was being schooled prior to Sasakul simply getting careless and being caught down the stretch.

Sasakul was a very good fighter, I never denied that. Very skilled technician. I just consider Pac's win over him to be somewhat flukey the way things turned out, and I don't think a rematch would've bore the same results had Sasakul kept his head. The fight wasn't even close prior to the stoppage.
