    Wow. Any specific reasons?

I rate him highly based on his overall ability and H2H personally.

Lets go with what exists on tape.

He looked extremely strong and filled with energy after 15 with Tommy Gibbons ... he looked like he could go another 15 rounds ....

Dempsey also looked extremely strong in the 12th against Brennan, still having one punch KO power to boot.

I can assure you the Dempsey/Marciano debate is one of the most common running where ever boxing junkies hang out be it in bars or websites and both guys have tons of rooting sections .... make your own decision on your own research. Your opinion is as good as anyones. Just don't be swayed by a small survey such as the troops here.

Have you even read my post about his punch output in the late rounds ?

How can you still make these claims after going by your own words, "Let's go with what exists on tape", the facts clearly state otherwise.

I dont see Sharkey beating the June 1954 Ezzard Charles, and I think Walcott would clearly beat jack sharkey. moore-sharkey is a toss up.

I think marciano had the edge in strength. as for speed yes dempsey had the edge in speed, but rocky had other advantages over jack that would nullify the speed edge.

I would debate this opinion with you any day of the week, and twice on sunday.

you never saw marciano getting clocked knocked down 3 times by a crude firpo and needed to be saved by the typewriter.

Marciano vs Dempsey in a fight? 15 round draw maybe

disagree with this, and would love for you to come up with evidence. I spoke with rocks brother personally and he told me rocky naturally weighed 220lb and that rock would always complain when he went into advance training for a fight how hard it was to get his weight under 200lb. Rocky was NATURALLY heavy big boned, and I feel he could easily fight in other eras with proper nutrition/supplements at a rock solid 210lb and look like david tua/mike tyson.

One guy was 6'1" , broad shouldered, long limbed and lanky, the other was basically 5' 10", slope shouldered, stocky, short armed, short and thick legged .. it's pretty obvious to me ... Marciano walking around at 200 just meant he was thicker in the middle, that's all ...

i like him in H2H he is just an animal in the ring and i see him doing whatever needed to get the win and his overall ability is really outstanding i think he packed a punch and had a pretty solid chin i just think he could fair well with alot of the top 10 HW

"After 4 rounds Dempsey is just another hooker." Jack Johnson
No one ever said anything like that about Marciano. Also, the Rock was known to up his workrate in the late rounds. Yeah, sure he was getting tired then.
I agree that Dempsey may have had the better boxing brain and was as strong but Marciano has imo a style advantage over just about anybody not named Foreman or Liston.

He wouldn't do well head to head with many modern big heavyweights. He'd be in Top 10 based on achievement had he fought Harry Wills and had he fought more often, but he didn't. He didn't fight at al in 1924 and 1925. I have hard time putting him into Top 15.

There have been many boxers after Dempsey who were much better than him but couldn't achieve as much as him because competition were much tougher.

I would definitely rate him in the top 10 heavyweights of all-time.

I study the films of Dempsey over and over.
He impresses me with his combination of speed, skill, power and toughness. Very aggressive, and he moved well in all directions, great footwork on his toes and the balls of his feet. A natural instinctive fighter, an accurate vicious puncher. And a superb boxer too, great at feinting and drawing a lead, parrying and countering. And he faced and beat all manner of styles.

Biggest myth in boxing. Definately not in the top 10, arguably not in the top 15.:bart

There is a "Dempsey myth", just as there's an "Ali myth" or a "Tyson myth".

There's a myth surrounding many of the great fighters. Liston, Marciano, Johnson. Any great fighter that captures the collective imagination in a certain way is surrounded by a myth.

They should be rated as fighters. On how they performed in the ring.
