Fighting a pound for pound boxer in their prime is no different from fighting a pound for pound boxer not in his prime.

Pound for pound ratings aren't weighted by age.

Beating a guy who is forty and past his prime, but ranked number five P4P amongst his contempories is exactly as good a victory as beating a guy who is twenty eight and ranked number five P4P amongst the same group of contempories.

good 4 him...a W over Dawson and Johnson would certainly cement his claim as the best LHW. He made good $ and picked BHOP and RJJ at the perfect time. I wish him the best. To me his best fight was with Kessler. Mikkel was in his prime and good world champion.

I doubt CalSLAPPY retires just yet. Slappy Joe wont fight Dawson or any other worthy opponent who could defeat him, but likely faded veterans or C level rotten tomatoes until he cruises past Marciano's record. Then Slappy Joe retires into the sunset with Marciano's record.

Yeah but Dawsons only fought old men aswell. So.. by your logic he's done nothing to deserve a fight with Calzaghe. Plus Dawson lost.

As much as I like Calzaghe it's a character flaw in the man that he doesn't like rematches. Rematches are one of the great traditions in boxing IMO.

Why don't you CalSLAPPY fans admit the only reason why Slappy Joe is going to hang around longer than he should is because he's a narcissistic son of a ***** who desperately wants to break Marciano's record. And to surpass Marciano's record Slappy Joe will take the low road to get there by fighting faded veterans and soft opposition. Just admit it.

Nobody cares about Marciano's record. It's like NFL. The guy (Morten Andersen) who currently holds the record for most scored points in NFL played at least 25 seasons . What an utter joke. A better question in this regard is: How many goals/points did he make on how many attempts? The same with Calzaghe. How did he do in great fights against prime fighters? Problem is, there are too few such fights on his resume.

Yeah, some folks talk about it for the wrong reasons but I don't think most people care for the reasons I gave. You need to discuss it within the context of how many attempts a fighter had. When you compare just numbers (like americans love in particular) you cut away all the interesting stuff. Would you say that Calzaghes resume matches Marcianos by the way? Hardly I take it.
