About fighting a big name fighter after a loss. When Honeyghan and Starling fought in Atlantic City in July of 1988, they were fighting to get exposure on the network and set up a clash for early in 1989 had both won. Well Honeyghan fought some fellow named Chung, and hit Chung below the belt and that fight ended oddly with Chung being massaged on his ass for a few minutes, and then Tomas Molinares knocked out Starling on an after the bell punch, which was later called a no contest. Even though it was no contest, it sort of took some luster off of Starling. He had never been stopped. Well Starling and Honeyghan fought in Feb. of 1989 anyway, and Starling won by knockout in I think round 9. It was a beating worse than Oscar got on Saturday. Honeyghan went on to fight Breland a year later, which he might not have had he beaten Starling. Although by that point Honeyghan was shopworn. My point is that losing sometimes gets fighters to take more chances because there is not as much to lose. Oscar might just fight Margarito now more than before. If he losses he could be a completely shot fighter, but what if he wins? And also, Margarito would not see Oscar as a threat the way he would of had he not been beaten up by Pacman. It is good that Oscar's fight was stopped between round 8 and 9, but had it gone on and he had gone down and out. He probably would have thought longer about coming back. Those kind of beating do not make guys quit unfortunately. The 10 count knockouts usually do more sadly.

Yet again, the neverending fighter trap....Fighters always want to go out on thier terms and hang around too long, they take a beatting then chase ONE MORE big win to go out on top and ends up losing several more times...Just think if Jones has walked away after the fight with Ruiz or the first fight with Tarver, you would have people calling him the greatest of all times, a guy that never really lost a fight won titles from middleweight to heavyweight....

My guess is Oscar will fight on, and will take a couple more beatdowns before he gets the hint that its over.

I think there's a good possibility he'll come back, with Sr. in tow as well. But it definitely won't be against Margarito. Not after the drubbing and the unbelievable humbling he just took. He didn't just get destroyed physically in that fight, he got destroyed mentally to the point where the only adjustment he could make was to quit on his stool. If he were to attempt a comeback, he should obviously go back up to 154 but he would need a warm up to make sure he has it and get a little confidence back. His best bet would be to do that in sparring against a top 25 guy. Then he should go for either Vernon Forrest, who I think is on his last legs, or possibly a Tito rematch at 160. IMO, those are really the only viable options where he has a chance of winning and not getting embarrassed by some upstart (although I do think Tito looked pretty good against RJJ for the first half of that fight).

Of course not. Margarito would destroy him badly. Tony's fighting Mosley next, than a Cotto rematch.

I do not see what Cotto can do with Margarito in a rematch. I think Cotto should let that one go and fight other guys like Pacman or Cintron even. All fighting Margarito will do for Cotto is speed up the end of his career by knocking him out again. Seems like Margarito's style is made for guys like Cotto and Cintron. I think that Oscar might have given Margarito a better fight than he gave Pacman on Saturday just on the size and style factor.

he won't fight him. he sucked ass against pac, what's he going to do against marg. the beating he'll get won't be worth the 20+ million he'll get since it'll all go to the hospital bills.

What made you think he would have taken Margo over Hatton?

In retrospect, he may have had a better chance in beating Margarito.

Before the Pac fight I was thinking Oscar is not worthy of anymore big paydays so I hope he does not get that fight. Oscar's legacy is not that great at the moment in comparison to the amount he earned in the ring. Ray Leonard's pay was eqaul to his legacy moreso. Beating Hatton might have it's downfall for Oscar also. If he loses to Hatton people say ok he is not the fighter he was, so the pac fight make sense. But if he beat Hatton solidly, then people say ok so Oscar can still fight yet he was stopped by Pacman. Then it looks like the real Oscar was beaten up and dominated by Pacman and his level is somewhere between Hatton and Pacman. In a way fighting on and looking good might not be great for Oscar's legacy after his shellacking. Sort of like when people said Duran was finished after Hearns, yet then Duran beats Barkley 5 years later and wins another world title. It proved that the excuses Duran made for Hearns were unwarranted and that Hearns beat a good Duran who was champion at 154 when they fought. Funny how that works. Duran fought 35 times and 17 more years after Hearns. That is not a washed up fighter. At the moment we all think Oscar was not Oscar on Sat.. but if he fights on it just looks like he was ok unless he fights Pacman or Hopkins.

After watching the fight last weekend, I am finally convinced that Margarito would chew up Delahoya and spit him out
