Examination: Is Floyd Mayweather Vulnerable To Southpaws?

Sounds to me like you're saying Pac has a better shot than Williams at beating Floyd. You might want to think hard about that assesment. Don't out think yourself.

 

I think he does. I think Williams is going to look like **** when he comes up against that sort of counterpuncher. Its easy to forget that Quintana effort, but he was outclassed over 12 rounds showing no signs of adaptation. He caught him well and finished it impressively second time, but I don't think all his flaws were magically ironed out. Since then he hasn't really fought a high class boxer, nevermind counterpuncher.

I prefer the speed and angles of Pacquiao, its not about size. You can deal with that with expert distance management and counters, if a guy is going to throw all them punches. Floyd is an expert at it.

Lots of good comments in this thread - my two cents is that 'effective pressure' sounds nice, but no fighter has been able to really employ it against Mayweather. He'll take 3 rounds to figure out and time Pacquiao and then pot shot counter him to a solid UD. Is there any doubt that Mayweather is as fast as Pacquiao and perhaps even faster since he doesn't have to jab his way in - he can lead with power shots?

Regardless, I still want to see this fight even though I can pretty confidently predict the outcome.

 

It's amazing that a guy has 39 professional fights and every one can name (and count on one hand) the times he's been hit fluch by opponents. Truly mind boggling. That's a sign of a defensive wizard to be sure...

Mayweather does not have a problem with southpaws. Boiling it down like that just doesnt work.

To beat PBF you have to have a lot more then to just be left handed.

Judah just happened to be one of the fastest fighters in the world, with some of the best handspeed you will see, if he had been orthodox we still probably would have seen him do the same. He caught Floyd with a few punches then got the **** kicked out of him.

 

PBF is an excellent fighter who adopts to different style presented to him..A southpaw stance wont be a big handicap for him but aside from Pac's southpaw stance, you have to deal with his speed, darting in and out stuff..it would be a a hellanuva of a fight if it happens.debats about the who"s gonna win would go on and on and on till a fight is made...anyway,everything would be answered on 2009.

Mayweather can adapt pretty well to southpaws. Sometimes he switches southpaw himself. Does anybody remember against Mitchell i believe that Mayweather switched to southpaw and landed a nasty left hand and lampley said "not even good southpaws could throw that left hand as fast and accurate as mayweather". PBF has a lot of tools although i do believe Pacquiao is still no easy feat.
