I will have a lot of disdain for Mayweather if he comes out for a Pacquiao fight, when Margarito was a big enough name after his win over Cotto.

If he came out and admitted from day one that he had no intention of proving himself to be the best Welterweight in the world, there would be no problem here. The fans just waited for him to step up, but it never happened.

Mayweather's style doesn't go down well with the American public, and him potshotting Pacquiao for 12 rounds won't change that.

Boxing does not need saving, and it certainly doesn't need a Mayweather Jr.

It only shows that floyd is a huge draw in boxing..I have said it time and time again, yet the Floyd haters insist that Floyd isnt a draw...We all know that Oscar is a huge draw, but who was he fighting that broke all the records??? Tito???? NOPE, Vargas??? NOPE, Mosley???NOPE, Pac???UM NOPE, it was floyd and by alot...Floyd is a draw in boxing if he comes back he will be the biggest draw in boxing with Oscar clearly done.

It's a business but Margarito vs Mayweather Jr at 147 is huge, also.

They really are good numbers, especially if one considers that many people erroneously viewed this as a joke, in which DLH would beat up on the smaller man.

So you're blaming the bad economy? That's a stretch, if you ask me. The fact that not many viewed this as a true mega-fight probably had more to do with it.

Floyd-Hatton only did 800k. Hatton himself is a big name. RJJ-Calzaghe with 24/7 put behind it only did 220k. Its obvious the economy has really goten bad in America and specially with Christmas coming up. The 2 cant be compared really.

In the US which was based only on floyd because Hatto is still pretty unknown..It did 2.5 million in the UK or a total of like 3.5 million which is what they commented about during the fight between hatton and Paulie Maggs a few weeks back...those are some huge numbers...

Jones vs Calzaghe did bad because Jones is shot, and very few knows who Joe is. It wasnt the economy, boxing is a niche sport in the US and the fans are loyal, you give them a good fight and they will buy it, No one thought that Jones would/could beat Joe at this point in his career so no one bought it, same for Pac vs Oscar...I will be honest, I wanted to watch the fight but i was scared that Pac was going to get hurt really bad and i just didnt want to see it, I have since watched, in fact I order the encore showing and paid the half price the following day.

Those are good figures. But a lot of factors should be considered. Many thought this fight was a circus act and that Pac will get a beating. Not a lot of fans wanted to see that. They were expecting the reverse, but since dela hoya has the advantage, the possibility of them seeing Pac win is low. But then you have the PBF-DLH fight..the difference here is that a lot of people wanted to see PBF lose..and against DLH, he was the underdog. And the possibility of PBF losing is higher. That explains the attendance.

Not bad considering that this was supposed to be a circus and a mismatch in favor of dela Hoya and given the economic condition.

De La Hoya has lost every PPV fight that has broken the 1 million threshold.

    DLH-Trinidad- 1.4 million
    DLH-Hopkins- 1 million
    DLH-Mayweather- 2.4 million
    DLH-Pacquiao- 1.25 million

De La Hoya was the sport's only superstar, and yet he loses when the spotlight is on him.
