I need a copy of "Holmes-Cobb" again..... I taped that fight off of live TV in 1982, but my goddamn sister recorded a soap opera over my damn fight....

Okay, so Texas Cobb was over-matched.... So What? Larry Holmes was a great heavyweight champion; no shame in losing to Holmes over 15 rds.... Cobb was game on that night out in Houston..... Who cares if Cosell couldn't handle it? I need a copy.... Email me....

As long as you have a long good jab + good technical skills = that's all you need :good.

Anybody ever see a fight from 1985 or so that featured Texas Cobb getting ICED by unheralded Dee Collier on ESPN? I was working that night and I missed the fight / taping.... I flaked off..... Cobb got dusted......

Oh for sure, it wasn't a criticism so much as an observation. Holmes hit Cobb with so many clean shots it just wasn't funny.

In none of your examples did boxers take life threatening beatings , and in all cases they were competitive.Marciano was in front on the cards,Willard was behind after 15rds but starting to pull back as Johnson tired,Jeffries was behind in the fight but allways competitive and had won several rounds PLUS he had a ko punch to equalise things if he could land it which he did.It was obviously a mistake replying to your posts ,one I will correct.

Howard Cosell. A monumental dickhead. My least favourite moment that I've read was when Sonny Liston won one of his comeback fights (late 1967) and Cosell's interviewed him afterwards. Sonny began: "First I'd like to dedicate this win to a great friend of mine, Joe Polino, who's had a stroke and-"

Cosell interrupts: "Sonny look at the monitor and tell me how you finished this fight".

I think Polino was the guy who juiced Liston's gloves.

Ha ha. There's nothing worse, something similar happened to me (my sister too). The recorded programme began. Thus: "Can Nigel Benn take this big opportunity against the American, Doug De Witt. This for the WBO championship of the world, scheduled for NEIGHBOURS, EVERYBODY NEEDS GOOD NEIGHBOURS". :yep

One good thing came out of it. Boxing finally got rid of that old woman Cosell who was never a real fan to begin with. He just didnt belong in there announcing fights.

I knew he was in Sonny's corner but didn't know it was him. Maybe that's why Cosell interrupted. :hey
