I've been thinking, boxing is in decline because a lot of the fights people want to see aren't happening. And you have the Older fighters (ODLH, SUGAR SHANE, B-HOP, HOLYIFIELD etc) staying in the spotlight and stopping up and coming fighters being known..

I think that there should be a top ten list of fighters for each division and the no1 fighter from each division should have to fight the fighters in the top 10. The older fighters should only be able to fight in a "Masters"type boxing match where all the older fighters without titles can fight, meaning an older fighter can only fight a P4P#1 if they have a title or have qualified in the top 10 of their respective division. This would mean more active fighters and garunteeded match ups no ducking and money issues...

    Anyone? Ideas?

1 = The sport of boxing needs to be based under a company(MMA fighters are under the UFC)

2 = Get rid of all these sanctioning bodies(have only 1 champ)

3 = Give us better free boxing on Wednesday & Friday nights(not these young prospects that get mismatched against old guys that were never never good)

4 = Give us better undercards(tired of seeing prospects against guys that are 0 competition)

5 = Give us better matched fights(Calzaghe vs Jones was a joke from the start, & we all knew it)

kill de la hoya, don king, di bella, warren, etc. and you are half way there. lose a load of meaningless belts. force fighters to travel to fight for belts. dont just sit in there back yard dictating. jermain taylor is a prime example right now.
the quicker that fight gets out of the way the quicker the winner can fight kessler.
    and it gos on.

I agree with 2-4 from p4p. I also think that the catch weight BS should stop. The weight divisions are set. Live with it or don't fight. One sanctioning body with an approved system or rating fighters. The ranks now by most sanctioning bodies is a joke. I also think making an odd number of rounds would be an addition. IMO, there should not be such thing as a draw. There should always be a winner.

I also think fighters should be required to fight now, and ad p4p said best, on FREE tv. At least regular HBO would be fine by me. PPV should be banished. This stuff where fighters fight like 2x per year is trash. I think a minimum of 4 fights per year should be mandatory for at least champions of "the" singular sanctioning body.

I would also like some sort of rule for fighters being in shape. If a fighter comes in front of a paying crowd fat and in bad conditioning, then maybe there should be some sort of rule about him not getting paid or something. I just think its a disgrace when guys cant finish 3 rounds (like Shannon Briggs) or show up FAT (like Sam Peter, Kirk Johnson).

Oh yeh, and last but not least, DON KING BANISHED FROM BOXING!!!!

6 = Lets get rid of all these tv contracts & have all pay per view fights aired through HBO. & if we're going to allow fights to take place in other countries, lets try to make those fights happen at the most reasonable hours where the whole boxing world can watch.

7 = Fighters should have to weigh in on fight night. I'm tired of seeing guys like Margo, Clottey & Pavlik draining themselves just to make weight, & then putting on 10-20lbs between weigh in & fight night so they wont die & to get an advantage over their opponent. If you cant fight at the weight then you shouldn't be considered a fighter in that weight class.

8 = Better judging. Its a fact that some judges tend to give the fighter in the home country the edge if a fight is close. And sometimes there's fights where scores are ridiculous(the judge that had Oscar over PBF = RIDICULOUS, the scores for the Winky Wright vs Hopkins fight = RIDICULOUS)

cheaper PPV prices, we need old fighters whether we like it or not, every sport has them from UFC to baseball... I think the 3 major belts should not disappear... the sport of boxing is global, not just in the U.S., people tend to forget that... imagine just one belt, the champ would be getting call out by 20 different names, which would leave many out from a possible match... sometimes controversy creates great matches... we just cant have one belt.. thats why you could always unify... sanction fees are garbage and outrages... and please change the boxing rules in the olympics... also the heavyweight division needs better promotion since this division always been perhaps the biggest and success of boxing...
