lightheavyweight Roy Jones Jr.
middleweight Roy Jones Jr.
welterweight Donald Curry
Lightweight Roberto Duran

 

Where the hell does everyone get off calling Curry overrated? It's not as it anyone considers him an ATG in the first place due to his short prime and unfullfillment of his potential, but he was a brilliant fighter during that time, make no mistake.

Unless you're saying he was over-hyped at the time in hindsight. I'd agree with that all things considered, but not based on his skill-set. He had all the talent in the world.

 

If anyone thinks that Curry is overrated, then they must think of him as a very poor fighter. Taking into account that he's not an elite great anyway. I don't think I have heard anyone say Curry belonged in the same company as Hearns, Leonard, Duran, etc, etc.

 

Let me add the Klitchkos at heavyweight also, mostly Vlad.

 

That is what I meant. And the same thing goes on nowadays with Margarito. Because he beat Cotto he is this great fighter who will beat everyone, and parellels a lot with Curry when he beat McCrory. A welterweight now thought of as great in the past who I think is overrated? Probably Oscar. But if I say that now it sounds like I am saying it because of his last performance on Sat. I would have said the same thing last week.

Very poor comparison IMO.

Curry was already considered the greatest welter in the world before he beat Milt. He had already beaten the guy hindsight tells us was the second best welter on earth - Marlon Starling, TWICE. He had beaten the slick and very talented LaRocca in great fashion and beat the tough Colin Jones well too. McCrory was just further confirmation of what most already knew.

Curry was no one fight overnight star. For 3 years the guy was electric and dominant.

 

Yeah, as i said he was the second best welter all along. His longevity in the division killed Don's of course. He beat Lloyd and Breland and come off much better than McCrory vs Curry. Eddie Futch at one time said Spinks and Starling were the two best defensive fighters in the world. Granted he was a bit biased, but both are superb. Spinks has a very underrated defense IMO. Effective.
