Just watched the fight again and noticed that Oscar was chopping down on something during his ring walk. For all we know he could have intentionally allowed himself to be weighed by HBO and once his weight was publicly disclosed he could have started stuffing his face. :think

The commentators also pointed out that Oscar typically doesn't allow his fight night weight to be made known. :blood

Somewhat off the subject I'll say that HBO seems to be the entity selectively disclosing fighter's weights - when it suits their HBO agenda of propoganda. They'll never tell us if the weight if the "HBO fighter" has a major advantage. On the other hand, without exception we seem to always get the weight when the guy they're banking on is at the disadvantage. Obviously, in the case of Manny/Oscar it didn't matter. They're both in the family.

All I remember was DLH opening his mouth wide, as he often does before a fight. Getting his jaw ready for the fight.

I'm pretty sure he was chewing gum... this creates more saliva, like everyone else stated, he was probably dehydrated....

If it was gum than he did a very good impression of Ace Ventura when he was driving Dan Marino to the super bowl. :yep

Ok maybe I'm exaggerating but Oscar had a mouthful of something and it looked like it was more than a piece of gum.

I'm pretty sure he was sucking on ice, as dehydrated fighters will do before a fight...

Whatever he was chewing on it was from the start of his ring walk up until he entered the ring. The cameras did cut away for a moment so he could have spit out gum if in fact he was chewing gum but his chewing pattern looked like it was in fact food.

I'm no doctor or chewing expert but that's what it looked like. :deal :D

I doubt he was eating anything on his way to the ring. Oscar is nothing, if not the consumate professional. However, of course making weight was an issue for him. How many 35 year old men do you know who are 5'10.5" and 147lbs?

This is exactly why I think it was food and not gum or ice. His dehydration outweighs is professionalism. (No pun intended) He may have needed a boast before getting into a fight.

Don't you think he, or his team, would have enough sense to realize that what ever he ate on his way to the ring would not be fully digested until well after the fight?

From what I've heard, this isn't the first time a professional boxer has eaten right before a fight. In fact Jim Braddock was eaten hash moments before a fight as depicted in the movie Cinderella Man.

He stopped allowing HBO to weigh him on fight night cause he used to come in WAAAAAAAAY heavier than his opponents.
