Who has the greatest legacy, Buster Douglas or Joe Calzaghe?

this is total bull**** tyson was not training properly at the time when he lost to buster douglas and calzaghe was avoided his whole carer

 

Calzaghe win all his fights against "mediocre" opponents, but Douglas lost against mediocre opponents(Mike White,David Bey,Jesse Ferguson) and he lost his big fights brutally(Tony Tucker TKO 10,Holyfield KO 3,Lou Savarese KO 1), that's the diffrence.

 

can I just point out that nobody ever thought Lacy was anywhere near as good as Tyson.

Douglas beat a shell of Mike Tyson, he didnt train AT ALL for that fight in tokyo and was already on his downhill spiral

 

How can you be a hardcore Calzaghe fan to say that? I watched fights in the 1980s and 90s. Douglas was the typical 1980s heavyweight who was lazy and undisciplined and overweight. He got lucky when he fought Tyson. He had ability, but he quit fights and was not very good. Yeah he beat Tyson so what. Mike was great from 86-89, but did not have that long a run, but I am not even sure Tyson was much better than Calzaghe to say the guy who beat Tyson was better than Calzaghe. Calzaghe was better and has a better legacy.

I don't think Iran is in the HOF yet. If he is he deserves it probably. My point is about legacies. Iran had more of a legacy than Buster. But still the reason I mention Iran is that Iran Barkley thought that if he beats Hearns he is as great as Hearns. You have to build a legacy of more than beating a great to capture that person's legacy. Iran never beat multiple titlest of the caliber of Cueves,Hill,Benitez,Duran, or fought the guys Hearns did and beat them all. He never fought superfights like Hearns. So how does beating a legend give a person that legacy? It helps with their own legacy but it does not transfer over. Also Hearns record in title fights was 14-4-1. Iran's was 3-6. I make this point because a man can beat a great, but that is not really making a great fighter just on that one fight.

I have to disagree with the comment Buster Douglas was a legend. I love the sport of boxing and in no way is Buster a Legend. It degrades other legends to say he was a legend. No way. He beat a legend, but that did not make him a legend. He beat Tyson one night on Feb 10, 1990. I remember the night and I have the original HBO tape. By the way, if you guys want to see it I can put it on youtube with some ESPN pre-conference footage with King and Tyson in some hotel in New York a few days later. Buster is not a legend. Not in my mind. Great win and all that, but a legend does not quit against Tony Tucker on May 30, 1987 ( I think that is the date because Tyson fought Thomas on that same night), and then he quit against Holyfield in October of 1990. Legend no. Legendary win. yes.

 

So Tyson was a shot fighter at 23?:rofl The same Tyson who a year later almost killed a prime Razor Rudduck in the ring, twice.

Look, Slappy has done NOTHING to estabish a legacy for himself. I know you are going to mention Kessler and Lacy and the shot fighters Jones, Eubank and Hopkins, but no one is going to care much less remember any of that 10 years from know.

Meanwhile that night in Japan is still being discussed and debated, and will be for many decades to come. What has Slappy done that will be discussed a year from now, much less 10?
