Im 6'0, 165 lbs, and 4-1 in amateurs (have'nt competed in a year though). My trainer wants me to drop down to 154 for a match in February. Im only 8% body fat now, so even if I dropped down to 5%, Id still weigh 160. I cant really dehydrate and hydrate again cause my weigh-ins are about 3 or 4 hours before my fights. So Im kinda in a pickle... Any suggestions, thoughts or comments? Be kind, Im sensitive...
Seems like too much weight to drop, and too little time between the weigh-in and fight. I wouldn't do it.
Well, Ill obviosly stop weight lifting and replace it with more cardio. Do you think I would have to lose muscle though?
If you only have 8% bodyfat now, I think you'll have to lose muscles. If the weigh-in was a day before I would consider it, but a few hours is just too little time. :huh
On the other side, you have plenty of time, so you could just try to drop some weight for maybe three weeks, and see how it goes. If it's not going well, then just maintain your power at 165.
If im mistaken the weight limit is 151 and 161 in the amateurs no? Unless its a catchweight. Quite simple, you have to lose muscle weight. Your gonna have to cut a little bit more food.
154-165. AIBA is making changes...not sure what they are yet regarding weight. There was a thread on here about it...it started off about the changes in rounds from 4x2 mins to 3x3 mins then got into the weight changes.
They haven't confirmed any changes in the weight categories. In that thread I stated that they were going back to the old 67kg and 71kg at the Norwegian Championships next year. :good
You might want to try the old flush trick. I've used it, and if it went well, you'll drop the weight fast and not feel drained. Two days prior to weigh in, you stop all salt and sugar intake and drink plenty of water. Eating water-rich foods also helps but go easy and no water-absorbing food. You should start to **** quite a lot - your body will rid itself of the excess of water from the skin much more than the muscle. After the weigh in, an apple, some peanut butter - all in very small amounts and very, very well chewed followed by a handful or so of something salty - but again, in small portions and eaten slowly. We could 'cycle' 7 pounds or so this way and basically not feel it.
