That's how he sees it. The thing is, he just fough two huge names, and banked tens of millions of pounds. Reports are he made 20 or 30 million in the Jones fight alone. Should Calzaghe only expect to fight big name fighters from here on forever, or are there other challenges, like fighting the biggest threat or the best talent? What specifically does fighting another big name do for Calzaghe's fame and/or wallet, and do you think he's taking the right fundamental approach at this stage in his career?

Problem with fighting names is, there isnt any really big names there, Calzaghe is the biggest fish.

I think Chad Dawson and Jermain Taylor are the only realistic options for Joe. Froch has British appeal, but if ignore the nut swinging of the past week, he isnt a big name in Britain at all.

He didn't get anything near 20 million in the Jones fight.

Fight Dawson or retire. Sadly the term "legacy" nowadays has become an accepted excuse to avoid fights against the most dangerous challengers.

I am NOT a true Joe Calzaghe fan, so I honestly don't care what he does or doesn't do........ However, if he were smart, he'd retire on top right now and await his induction into the IBHOF in five years.... BUT! Team Calzaghe will get greedy and keep him going until he gets KTFO by some young tiger who's hungry..... I can see it coming down the road.....:blood

They sold less than 250,000 PPVs => revenue of about 12 million.
Add British TV money and ticket sales => far less than 20 million OVERALL (you still have to deduct the costs).

How much Calzaghe made, that's what we're talking about.

Not sure that Dawson has much appeal to a wider audience, but I'd still like to see Calzaghe fight him in Cardiff and then retire. Froch and Taylor are decent enough, but I don't see them doing much for his legacy, whereas I think if he beats Dawson it'll boost the legacy a great deal. I can see where people are coming from when they say if he beats Dawson it'll just be like him beating Lacy, but I personally don't think this is true - Dawson's a far better fighter than Lacy, for me.
