honourable mention goes to Ray Mercer, everything about the Merce gives Tyson trouble, he couldve pulled off the upset.

mid 90's tyson was still useful even though he was a shell of the late eighties version.
he still blew seldon and bruno away , and gave holy a bloody good fight (1st one)
the usual names, lewis, bowe, moorer would have give him problems and someone mentioned mercer, i agree there, mercer was a real tough guy, underrated!!!!

Thread starter definitely meant mid-80's... by the mid-90's, Tyson was clearly vulnerable

LOL at Moorer.. Tyson wouldve ate him alive

Pre-prison Tyson was about as beastly as a fighter can get... before his opponent even stepped in the ring with him, they already lost..

Are we talking other fighters that were active in 1986??

1986 Holyfield would not have beaten Tyson! Can't think of anyone Mid-80's that would have beaten him.

Mid-90's Tyson is a completely different animal, he was vulnerable to anyone that no longer believed the hype!

I think the following guys had a shot at beating Tyson in 1996:
(yes, many would probably get KTFO, but these guys could do it)
McCall and Mercer would have been dangerous thanks to their extreme durability!!

    Lennox
    Bowe
    Ibeabuchi
    Morrison
    McCall
    Mercer
    Golota
    Briggs

At that time... the 45 year old George Foreman would have beaten Tyson.. Any bloke who stood his ground with Tyson (post prison release) was in with a shot. Intimidation was a mighty factor in the Tyson mindset. There doesnt seem to be any historical fights encountered by Tyson after the prison release. Nothing gives me reason to dwell on his ability during that particular era. The Holyfield bouts serve as proof of his lost mental strenght.

The only one's on this list that I would say definitely would've beaten a mid-90s Tyson are Bowe, Lewis, Ibeabuchi.. and possibly Mercer in a close one.

Golota, Briggs, and Morrison all get KOed, and McCall loses a decision, IMO.

    Meh.

Lewis would likely have pummeled him into submission. Lewis fought to the level of perceived threat and I cannot see him fooling around with any version of Tyson.
