Hello everyone. i decided to watch this fight again, i had the time and i wanted to see if i had missed anything. Let me just say i would not recommend the viewing of this fight- it was quite poor.

Hopkins said after he made joe look amatuerish and i actually agree with him. Calzaghe didnt look that good, he pitty pattered more than ive ever seen him and found it difficult to break bernard down.

That sed he was going up bernard 'the spoiler' hopkins. hopkins connected with a beautiful right hand in the first and knocked JC down. He wasnt hurt but it was a big statement. Hopkins main thing through the whole fight was try and get a punch in then hold on-grabbing arms, holding down heads, faking low blows etc. then wait 30 seconds and try and connect another punch etc etc. This certainly affected calzaghes rhythm but he managed to put enough pressure on bhop to steal away rounds landing more but not particularly crisp punches.

the last 4-5 is where calzaghe clearly runs away with it. hopkins was struggling mightely with the pace of the fight and calzaghe was getting to him more. hopkins then basically turned to survival mode doing anything he could to slow calzaghe down for eg grabbing calzaghe as much as he could. he never really threw anything meaningful from then on and the rounds were easier to score.

Summary- calzaghe won the fight for me 116-112. it was a very messy and scrappy fight. although calzaghes punches werent great crisp shots, he outworked him and landed more shots. hopkins early on landed a couple of good clean punches but held on basically the whole of the round. he tried hes best to spoil the fight and he did but not enough.

How some people had bhop winning is beyond me. He kept it close but he was more interested in spoiling the fight than winning in. calzaghe clearly wins it in the second half of the fight and thankfully he did because using those tactics to try and win brings boxing down. The woman judge(i have nothing againts women judges btw) that had it 114-113 bhop gave him 2 of the last 3- which im sory but i just did not see

    MY SCORECARD
    10 9 10 9 9 9 10 9 9 10 9 9 112 BHOP
    8 10 9 10 10 10 9 10 10 10 10 10 116 CALZAGHE

It was a horrible fight! Calzaghe won a UD by workrate and volume for me.

yeh i was being kind i think- it was rubbish. and i said above how the woman judge gave him 2 of the last 3 i didnt mean that was the only rounds i didnt agree with but it wasnt even that close. Its strange becasue i was hearing from some how bhop won, so i wanted to see it again looking to see if i could give him anything...but no i had it 116-112. but yeh it was very poor and calzaghe didnt look that good at all

Well, Joe got the win and looked a hell of a lot better than Kelly Pavlik. Nobody looks good against Hopkins and he disgraced himself against Joe by using his head as a third arm and when gassed out by mid-rounds he faked lowblows to get a rest period. What was Joe supposed to do? Knock out that ref who was clearly in the tank for Bernard and then finish off Hopkins. Joe knew what Hopkins was doing trying to buy time and mocked him mercilessly in front of his fans. A very dirty, classless and cowardly performance by Bernard. Joe did what he had to do to win and wisely kept his cool.

yeh mate i agree hopkins antics brought the fight down. calzaghe tho didnt look that good but your rite he found a way to win. Ive just read how hopkins said something in responce to cazaghe saying boxings dying, by saying maybe its dead when he fights......i thought that was rich coming from him after what i just saw again. hopkins looked great destroying pavlik, but apart from that i dont kno when hes actually looked any good to watch- maybe vs glen johnson. hes uses dirty tactics and isnt the most pleasing to watch. in a word- hes boring

It was pretty clear to me that Joe won the fight. He threw and landed more than Hopkins and I think you scored it right. Maybe it was a little closer.

I am not a Calzaghe fan, the man needs to fight better opponents but I still had him winning his fight against Hopkins. Hopkins needs to get over it.

u r not amateurish if u beat the executioner...period...if he made him look like an amateur then why did he lose most every rd after 1?? and i am not a big JC fan

Joe may have looked amateurish but Hopkins looked like a cheat and ultimately a loser.

At least Hopkins can console himself with the fact that Joe had to look bad to beat him.

It's a much disputed match that should have been rematched, imo. It should have been done and dusted by now instead of the Jones farce.

I had it 115-112 for Joe in the end...As I have said before Hopkins made that fight hard to score at times but more often he made it easy to score by just not doing anything.

Joe fought a good fight, as good as he could have against a guy who was technically superior and had a great defense..Joe did what he had to do, and it was a clear win in my book.
