Versus could use a commentator whose got some better boxing credentials. These guys are alright but very very bland. You could use a guy like say Shannon Briggs or RJJ to do commentating.
One thing I like about Versus is that they constantly stack the cards ala UFC..so even when a fight ends early, they're quick to fill it up with two or more fights. I wish HBO would do that.
Oquendo comes out first and looks generally...I dunno he looks ready to either fight or nap basically.
Versus kind of trying to throw some shots referring to the heavyweight fights on "Major" networks. "What we're showing with these guys is every bit as good as what they've got"
Has Versus always televised boxing? This has been the first week I've ever watched a fight on this channel.
I believe in 06-ish they started with a fight deal with Bob Arum. They showcased a lot of Arum-based fighers like Pavlik for instance. Then they just picked up fights where they could but now they have a deal with Goosen.
They put on what they can afford, and clearly they're making some progress. The network is growing, and the more quality sleeper fights they put, the more word of mouth buzz they generate, the more people tune in, and the spiral perpetuates. :good
