lol...i remember someone posted a huge analysis of wlad and the atgs and how their records stack up. the term "non-bum" was used as quantitative measure

it's still too early to compare wlad with atgs but he is compiling a solid resume.

 

if Wlad and Vitali were two black brothers with the same records, we wouldnt hear that crap that they sucks bla bla bla, they would be recognised as great as Lennox, Bowe ect ect...

It is a very solid resume. He needs three or four more wins, and a couple of those victories must be over Haye/Valuev/Povetkin.

 

The competition level between Lewis and Wlad is the where the big difference comes into play, Lewis fought both big bangers and highly regarded boxers, thats take a look at both mens top 10 wins

Lewis- Holyfield, Mercer, Tyson, Vitali, Rahman, Tua, Ruddick, Briggs, Morrison, McCall.

Wlad- Peter, Brewster, Mercer, Bryd, Brock, Sultan, Rahman, Barrett, Thompson, Jefferson.

I cant see how anyone can even consider Wlad's resumse even being close to as good Lewis'. There's 0 hall of fame wins for Wlad, his best win is over small ass Chris Bryd for christ sake, Lewis has beaten Heavyweight elite, soon to be Hall of Famers like Tyson, Holyfield, and probably Vitali, guys that would more and likely beat Wlad at his best IMO.

 

Just pointing out the absurdity of comparing boxers on a purely statistical basis, without any reference to any other factors such as quality of competition, as in the post I quoted.

Evander Holyfield has lost many more rounds of boxing than Wladimir ever has. Which boxer has the better historical standing?

Joe Louis hit the deck about a dozen times during his career, whilst Vitali has never been down. Which boxer has the better historical standing?

Joe Frazier got knocked bandy by George Foreman, twice. David Tua has never officially been down. Which boxer has the better historical standing?

If you fight 10 guys and knock them all out, while someone else takes on 5 champions and goes 4-1...which boxer has the better historical standing?

Stats are useful, but aren't worth a thing unless you also bear in mind quality of opponents.
Otherwise, someone like Brian Nielsen would be a legend considering the (old, fat) names he's beaten and record he piled up.

 

When I hear great stats, the question we should ask is WHO else is on the list.

If one was to make a list of the top ko%, top records in title fights, top winning percentages over all, and rounds won to rounds lost %, Wlad's name is way up there with Lewis, Ali, Louis, Marciano, Foreman, et al.

Brian Neilsen won't rate on such a list. So stats that go far and wide weed out the rest.

I should mention that f I had to rank both of their resumes at the same age, I'd say Wlad's ahead right now as Lennox really didn't start building his legacy until later on. That's why I hesitate to rank Wlad in any kind of way right now- how he finishes will be vital. If he goes unbeaten for another 4 years, unifies another belt, and takes out the best fighters he can in that span, I wouldn't hesitate at all calling him an ATG.
