Not a great premise for a thread, really.

If we look at Joe Calzaghe statistically he is 46-0 and looks like a very good puncher, when we know he isn't, not at the top level. How many defences does he have? On a quantitive level he is comparable to any middleweight/light heavy, ever.

Most of Klitschko's wins are solid rather than spectacular, and his losses are spectacular against less than spectacular competition. It's not a bad resume at all, infact one of the better ones around at the moment but comparing him to greats purely by way of trotting out a few statistics is not going to work.

That is false. It does mean something -- that Valero can punch, much as Foreman could punch.

There is a difference, however. Only 5 of Valero's KO's came in title fights, which is why I included the number of KO's both Wlad and Lewis have in that category. Wlad is superior both in that category to Lewis (11 vs 10 in 3 fewer fights) as he is in terms of overall KO % (83.64 vs 72.73).

I made that same point in a post a few months ago.

Wlad just needs to keep winning and dominating. He'll get his spot as an ATG even though his division is weak.

He may be, among all fighters with 24 or fewer career fights and 5 title bouts or less. That might be worth discussion, if not comparison with those with twice as many career bouts and around triple the world title fights.

It's a cute tactic, until it is easily pointed out that neither Fields nor Nielsen have ever fought for, let alone held, one of the four major world titles. Then, not so much, you know.

But I give props for the effort, however failed and feeble it may have been.

It's a little thing called level of competition. Who has Wlad knocked out? I won't even bother, Klit huggers never change their minds.

They are the top two heavies of the present day and of the past five years, in whichever order you please.

And they're both probably in the top ten of the past 40 years.

    Probably.

Imagine they were American. Really - imagine it. Then we would all be discussing where in the top 5 all time they should be.

However, they are not American, so it is more a question of whether they make the ist or not.
