They do, with Calzaghe and a few other Europeans, take an undue amount of negativity on here.

 

He'd beat at least a couple of the names on that list, so not being them and being Wlad Klitschko can't be that bad.

 

Remove the WBO from your stats. That belt was absolute bull**** when Lewis was around (when most of Wlads WBO fights were by the way)


What are you left with?

Waldo didn't become a real title holder until he won the IBF. WBO = bull**** at heavy, and most people realise that. Unless you're willing to say that Tommy Morrison and Michael Bennt are former world champions?

If you ignore that, Wlad is 7 from 7 in title fights, with 7 KO's.

Now to be honest, that's excellent. But to say he's won more world title fights than that is bending the facts at best. Right now Wlad is 1 of 3 titleholders.

When he unifies more than one belt, that would be great.

So he needs another 8 wins to get there. Still, to become undisputed has to be the ultimate goal, otherwise his reign (in historical terms) will be no different to that of a Chris Byrd or John Ruiz.

 

I am from teh USA and I agree that statistics can be misleading. However, lets look at this in context please. Wlad is only 32 years old and as a previous poster made this very important post. At this point in his career Wlad's accomplishments can be argued to be greater than Lennox Lewis's

Pretty safe to say that at this point in their Career Wlad is WAY ahead of Lewis in terms of accomplishment. Lewis wasnt even a title holder until he fought Golota and lets get real here..it was GOLOTA:rofl

 

You sir, are a first class ******. Rahman fought Lewis at his very best. That was almost 8 years ago. Rahman also had to take this fight on 16 days notice. He weighed 253 lbs versus 238 in South Africa. He was dead on his feet after a few rounds with Vlad. He was lying on the ropes because his legs are shot. It was not the same fighter that Lewis fought. Anyone that does'nt know this is a brainless twit. It is like camparing Mike Tyson in 1996 to the Tyson that lost to McBride. Use a little comtext in the future. What would have happened to Rahman in Africa if he was 253 and fought Lewis halfway across the world on 2 weeks notice? He would have gotten smashed. Never mind the fact that he's shot.

 

WBO is a legit belt.

The WBO was made popular by boxers such as Oscar De La Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera, Naseem Hamed, Michael Carbajal, Johnny Tapia, Harry Simon, Nigel Benn, Gerald McClellan, Joe Calzaghe, Steve Collins, Michael Moorer, Dariusz Michalczewski, Chris Eubank, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko and Chris Byrd in the 1990s.

All of these fighters are HOF'ers.

Pretty much everyone considers Calzaghe's reign authentic with his 21 title defences.

One of the most popular boxers (DLH) also had the belt so that's gotta mean something as well.

Different, but not in the way you're probably thinking. Foreman had 81 fights and he had plenty of no hopers in that resume along with the cream of the crop like Frazier, Norton, Holyfield and Ali. I'm not going to pretend Wlad's resume is better at the very top (that's no contest at this point in George's favor), but Foreman was moved along slowly (didn't fight for the title until his 38th fight) and was fighting guys with losing records right up to the first Frazier bout. In his 5 fights leading up to that fight, he fought guys with records of 4-16, 48-15, 15-5, 4-20, and 1-14. Those 5 KO's alone are more than George had in all his title fights combined. Those 3 below .500 fighters alone is only 4 less than Wlad's fought his entire career. Foreman fought 20 fighters with .500 or worse records.

So, when we're talking about big punchers having records inflated by fighting a lower level of comp...the reality is different than the common perception because Foreman did it more than Wlad did.

Essentially, Foreman had better comp than Wlad at the top and worse at the lower level on the way up. This was less of an issue during his comeback, of course, where George fought against decent to very comp after getting into shape with stiffs for the first few years.

No dis on either fighter, of course- I like both of 'em, I'm just trying to look at it as balanced as possible. :thumbsup

 

Meaningless. One can go 100-0 (100) against 0-50 boxers and it doesn't make you better than someone with an ugly record like Carlos Monzon or Ezzard Charles.

What makes Wlad so great is WHO he beat. The key to Wlad is that, of his generation, he's been most willing to take on the toughest opponents available and beat them convincingly. THAT'S the key to Wlad's legacy. :deal

I think alot of it has to do with title defences and being able to become undisputed.

Wlad is on pace to beat Joe Louis's record. I don't think he would want to do that, but he could.

 

Bowe was already sick man in his Golota fights..past his prime..
