Throw those sweet combinations and then tie Margi up to hopefully stop some of those bombs coming back. Would probably get ugly down the stretch but if it gets Cotto the win then hug him till Margi thinks he's in the ring with his wife!
i believe he has to stand and pick his punches and at times wrap tony on the inside and then move. he needs to variate his boxing because cotto likes to fight at his own pace but tony won't allow him time to drop his hands and fiddle with his shorts he's like a rash. miguel has to use movement to create angles then pop 2 3 punches then either wrap tony up or move he doesn't need to go to the ropes like last time. tony has long arms he can wrap tony up then move. he was picking tony apart for 5 rounds but i feel miguel has to adapt for tony. the looping overhand rights and lefts worked on tony but i also like to see miguel fire body shots aswell. movement of the head aswell will work aswell as miguel likes to take shots on gloves this time ride them and slip and roll. plus please miguel when your hurt grab tony don't run to ropes. miguel needs to fight use certain rounds as periods of rest aswell as i do feel miguels stamina isn't the best for some reason. also he needs to keep turning tony and disrupting tonys come forward flow. easier said then done though lol
Having more stamina wouldn't hurt anyone facing Margarito, just ask Paul Williams... but that alone is far from the answer. For anyone who has actually heard and seen Cotto talk about his loss to Margarito (like I have) it's really not that hard to see Miguel feels like he just wasn't the better fighter that night and that's why he lost. His heart and will are not broken, to him it's just part of the game and he really feels like he can beat Margarito in the rematch. Now to give my two cents on the thread topic, I think Cotto should do what I thought he was going to do the first time around, which was to counter punch to Marg's body! Margarito is a beast, but he is still very slow with his punches and I think Cotto could really counter Marg's jab, hooks, and even uppercuts with the right head movement and placing his money punch full power on Margo while he is the one punching, not stalking and ready to recieve the punch... I think Margarito would inevitably feel those punches to the ribs. Other adjustments would be giving Margarito angles, moving his head, and holding him when necessary, but I think the main problem (believ it or not) was Cotto's offense, although impressive, not what was needed for this fight in particular nor what has gotten him where he is at now. That with a more disciplined defense I think would give Cotto the best possible chance he could have.
i get what your saying, but i believe he can win and you got look from a fighters point of view how can you sleep at night knowing you been beaten by a guy you can beat and not take rematch. i be very dissapointed if theres no rematch.
He is, I even mentioned it in a thread I made that Cotto was Margo's best shot at beating an elite fighter due to their styles, people (mostly Cotto lovers) replied how they agreed with some of the things I said, but how Margo was probably going to get stopped... :-(
Beat me to it:good He doesn't have to make it macho **** every second of every round; he would just be playing into Margarito's hands again. Also, he can't remain stationary on the ropes for prolonged periods of time; he looked great in the early rounds when he was sliding up and down the ropes, but he should try and use more of the ring as well (but I suppose thats easier said than done against a pressure fighter of Margo's calibre).
He should watch Kessler dismantle Andrade, basically do not run right to the ropes. When he comes forward show him some power in the center of the ring and then back up, do not wait until you're on the ropes to throw the big punches. Cotto kept going right to the ropes leaving tons of space in the center of the ring where he should ideally be, when it got to the ropes he tried to evade Margo, he should have bumped shoulders and spun going back to the center of the ring, let him follow you there, back up slowly, stopping and picking him apart like we know Cotto can do. When it gets closer to the ropes spin him, if that stops working grab and spin him getting back to the center of the ring, repeat this process for 12 rounds.
So basically what im reading is you want cotto to stick and move...hit and not be hit..hmm..that sounds awfully familiar to someone else's style who is often ridiculed for doing so...fans are funny
if Cotto can take a little bit of pop off his punches he might just be able to hit and run for the full twelve. On the flip side he might hurt Margo so little that Margo will just get to him faster.
