Seriously? he is 5'11 thats about average size for a welter weight when you look at Trinidad, De La Hoya, Tommy Hearns ect.... What gets me is how you can argue that cus he stopped Cotto, yet not one of you have said the same thing about Paul Williams, nor Diego Corrales. :nono if Tony really is too big please prove how you came to that conclusion, as it stands right now, that excuse is a bitches excuse.
Bottom line is he's making the weight so he's not too big. Blame the rules, not Margarito. So I totally agree, it's a silly excuse.
if you can make the weight then you're obviously not too big. I'ts that simple. If you can say Margo is too big than why can't we say Floyd is too fast. They are both attributes they cannot be learned.
ITS NOT AN EXCUSE...BUT THIER IS A SIZE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIM AND COTTO...BUT IF HE CAN MAKE WEIGHT MORE POWER TO HIM...I JUST THINK HE'S AN OVERATED FIGHTER WITH A GREAT CHIN AT 147...I WAS NOT IMPRESSSED WITH HIS CHIN AT 154...HENCE THE REASON HE WILL STAY AT 147 HE CAN BULLY THE DIVISION...EXCEPT FOR WILLIAMS:deal
The night the ra aired Cotto getting smashed. Stewart said that Margarito is just too big he is a big Welter weight.
They are talking about his height to, which is BS, Tyson was the shortest of the HWs back then and he was fine.
Haters will find any little thing they can latch onto to discredit a fighter. Pay no attention to them.
It's not like he uses the jab and and fights tall standing away....he goes on the inside and throws many punches.
Kind of a crappy excuse. If you can make the weight than you're not "too big." I'd say 5'11 is pretty tall for WW but I've seen way way more extreme than that.
anyone that can make 147 is a welter weight if there was a 6 foot 10 boxer who was anemic but for some strange reason he could make welterweight.... then he is a welterweight anyone who makes excuses based on height are just that... excuses
i agree if you make the weight then thats your weight class.... but i also think its obvious that hes a bigger man then a lot of the other welters, and also is obvious by him continually fighting at 154 as well, while a lot of the other welters have moved up from 140. but hey... thats his right to fight there as long as he makes the weight. And that i think is what it comes down to... a lot of the welters had a lot of their careers at 140 or below... and their size differance will show against guys like margarito, ie judah, mosley, cotto i am of the belief margarito was able to beat cotto because of the size, but im not going to sit here and say margarito is TOO big for a welterweight lol.. he makes the weight and never has weight issues it seems, if you cant beat the guy at your weight because of his size well thats the way the cookie crumbles.
