Firstly, I think Haye will be sparked out. That is not what I'm saying so hear me out...

The heavyweight champion of the world should be the most recognisable sportsman on the planet. He should be seen as the pinnacle of athleticism. The toughest of the tough. And should be the flagship of our sweet science. Going back through the ages, the HW champion has been the kingpin. From Jack Johnson to Mike Tyson, with a few exeptions along the way, the HW champion has been recognised across the world.

I rate Lennox Lewis as a top 5 HW (all time) but he was not of the same mould. An awesome boxer but did not have character to carry the sport. Fortunately for all of us De La Hoya managed to carry the torch during that time in terms of marketability.

Boxing is going through a resurgance (in the UK at least) and having a character as HW champion of the world would do the sport no end of good. Someone that Jo Public can love or hate. Someone who will get people tuned in because they know that at some stage, someone will be going on their back.

Now, like all of us interested enough to be on these forums, we can appreciate Floyd and Pernell Whitaker. But casual fans want blood and thunder. Like him or hate him, Haye is exciting to watch!

I for one will be behind Haye when he fights Vitali.... (but my money will be firmly banked on the Ukranian!).

Needs him to be Heavyweight champion?

What we need is for the best to win, period.
David Haye will suffer a devastating knockout loss at the hands of one of the best heavyweights today, nothing wrong in that.:patsch

    You're right.

    Good looking.
    Charismatic.
    Exciting style.

He's a potential crossover star across the world, that's what we need.

The Klitschko's are both more charismatic than Haye IMO - depending on what you prefer.

But, they won't capture the imagination of the US public - Wlad is best remembered for his *****-like performance against Iggy, whilst Vitali is known for his brave effort against Lennox (but so was Bruno, Mavrovic et al).

Haye can, because he can talk **** and (sometimes) is funny.

There will never be another genuinely GREAT heavy - the last of those were named Lennox and Evander, and that is the way it will stay.

First of all you titled this incorrectly. It should have read, "THE UK NEEDS HAYE AS HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! I would rather see Lennox Lewis come out of retirement and win than hear steroid boy and his big ass mouth rant about how good he is.
Go Vitali !!! Break this fukkers jaw so we don't have to listen to him go on.

p.s. I don't like the frikkin' Queen either!!!

Not a chance, they're both ugly, have a robotic style, Wlad's as boring as boring can be and neither speak good enough english to have true charisma.

I was banging a bird and made her watch Haye - Barrett before I dealt with it. When Vitali came on the screen, she laughed at his face and then was laughing at his wording of english phrases. He is no crossover star.

I don't know if boxing needs David Haye - but it sure doesn't need Wladimer Klitschko stinking up the division with his boring and overly cautious style.

New blood is needed desperately at heavyweight.

If Haye is really the best Heavyweight on the planet, which I doubt, then he needs to be champion.

If you're saying it would be nice if a brash, loudmouthed trash talker was champion, well I'm not sure Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Floyd Patterson, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes or Lennox Lewis would agree with that.

Don't you think it's a good thing that Manny Pacquio is a world champion? He's a really nice and respectful fellow, but exciting at the same time. Or is this just for heavyweights?

Even if Wlad can KO all the new blood? What do you propose if that happens?

Tall, six pack, well groomed, defined muscles, great complexion, nice smile.

    Haye's a girls dream.

The Kilts look like typical eastern european meatheads.
