I like the look of Bellew. And he's a local lad so he's got my support. But this would be too big a step at the moment. Give him 12 months.

Bellew looks good, but I wouldn't put him in with Clev yet.

    Cleverley ATM.

There is no way they will meet though - Clev will be Warren's pet for leaving the Calzaghe stable in his favour, and thus will be kept away from punchers for the remainder of his career.

Clev needs to drop that stupid title and face the leading domestic/Euro fighters rather than these Afrobums or British club fighters that tend to appear in the Commonwealth rankings.......

God knows what state Warren would have been in had he been the manager of Michael Watson - the amount of punchers he faced..... McCallum, Benn and Eubank (twice) OUCH.

Cleverly, but we'll get a better idea after he has fought Dean Francis and lets put Bellew in with Tony Oakey first.

    You missed the point entirely.

Bellew is 8-0. Fought 4 times this year but looks very green still. Made his debut in 2007.

Cleverley is 14-0. Fought 3 times this year and made his debut in 2005.

In twelve months time Bellew should be 12-0 and Cleverley around 15-0. That is not as big a jump as it is at the moment (provided the opponents are well matched).

12 months was a flippant suggestion but based on where both boxers are likely to be, rather than the time scale itself.

Also, a fighter should improve quicker early on and the learning curve slows as he progresses.

    Is that not 'commin' sense?

Not sure what to think of Bellew - he was excellent on FFN.

But Clev is well and truly aboard the SN gravy train - even considering him fighting a puncher is stupid, because it ain't happening. :good

Warren never has his fighters in with punchers - this isn't anything personal against Cleverly, I like the guy FFS.

I would put him in with Francis tomorrow - my point is that the Commonwealth title is now being exploited by Warren (and others - Hennessy with Barker) instead of putting them in with the British champ.

Clearly in these instances there is a conflict of interest, but Clev would beat Francis (and is more marketable IMO), whilst Barker would make Elcock look like a clubfighter (ditto re marketability).

I think Khan is a special case.

Hatton, Calzaghe and Hamed all faced punchers on the rise with SN - so why shouldn't Khan?

I remember the BS afterwards...... I shouldn't have put Amir i with a puncher.

    BS!

Punchers are the easiest kind of fighters to deal with! Keep your chin tucked in and counter!

    :rofl

What if Prescott boxes like Whitaker too? ;)

We won't find out for a while, since it lasted 52 seconds and all...
