why are people upset that DLH and pac fought at the same weight?

I was as surprised as everyone else that DLH actually came in on fight night at the weight class the fight was for, but has it become so expected to dehydrate yourself to make weight instead of coming in at fight weight on fight night? Shouldn’t we want to have two people who actually weigh the same test each other? Instead of becoming upset that DLH came in at weight instead of dehydrating to gain an advantage shouldn’t we be giving him some acknowledgement for fighting on a fair weight basis? Shouldn’t we be asking all fighters to fight on a more fair ground weight wise?

First thread BTW, and waiting for the you only have so many posts comments to come out, as if how long you have been at a particular forum means anything.

wow no one wants to explain why they were so upset? Is it just because you lost your prediction because you expect weight to be different? Or is it just because I am unknown around here?

very good analysis for a first thread... some people just can't accept the fact that pac beat 'dehydrated' DLH without a sweat so they end up making excuses...

    "Upset"??:huh
Surprised,intrigued,.....maybe some other things.......but many of us are "upset" that the biggest, richest Boxer in the sport was weight weakened?
Its not exactly up there with the Iraq war is it?
I think we all have far more pressing things to get "upset" about than that mate.
    Oscar doesnt pay my bills.

because everyone thought Oscar would win the fight because he was so much bigger, and at the end of the day, he wasn't.

I think Pac would have beat him no matter what weight the fight was at. Even if Oscar weighed in at 154, but it would have been closer.

I think `upset` is maybe too strong a word unless you are....
    A. a big DLH fan.
    or
    B. someone that bet on DLH & expected him to do what any other fighter would do which is NOT throw away your biggest advantage which is the fact that you are the bigger guy.

(yes, I bet on DLH if you must know but hopefully I can make it back on Pac/Floyd)

    Seriously ?

I think DLH practically handed the fight to Pacquiao by coming in like a ghost.

You MIGHT be right if DLH was shot aswell as weight drained but you seriously think that Pac could beat even the 154 lb DLH of the Mayweather fight ?

I definitely do not think that.... personally.

thats probably why he came in at that wieght (if you belive it) to make it seem like it was all even. dlh still looked bigger but size made no difference. it was the speed that was killing dlh.

Because Oscar's weigt size advantage was suppose to win him the fight. He didn't have it and it turned out like you saw.

definately. At this point there is no doubt in my mind.

I'm more and more convinced that anyone who doesn't have a great right hand is at a huge disadvantage against Pac. Oscar doesn't fit the bill. And like Roach said, Oscar lost to Floyd because he couldn't pull the trigger. Pac would have beaten him worse.

Thanks for the response I was getting lonely

What really suprised me though was no one saying that this is how fights should be. If you want to fight a smaller man then you come in at the same weight as him. I think it would change the boxing game up a bit and stop some people padding their resume by picking on those who are not their own size. I do understand the athleticism it takes to control your weight and what they go through to dehydrate and rehydrate but I just don't think it is quite in the spirit of the weight classes. People were mad about the mismatch because they expected DLH to be 20 lbs more than pac but those same people don't give him credit for coming in at a fair weight (wither he meant to or not is anyones guess).

I agree. I wish boxing would go back to same day weighin's so that we could eliminate large disparities in weight between fighters.

......from what I'm gauging however, I dont think too many people are upset that DLH was as light as he was......what they are (myself included) is puzzled as to why.

Has there been an official explanation coming out of DLH as to why 145 lbs and then only gaining 2 pounds?
I know there's been alot of opinions that DLH did it to be faster.....but it makes absolutely not sense to me that he'd sacrifice the one monumental advantage he had in the fight......DLH was'nt going to be as fast as Pac regardless of what weight he came in. At his age, he could have weighed 140 lbs and he'd still be far from Pac's speed.

.....its equivalent imo to say Ricky Hatton rationalizing that he needs to be fast against Pac and coming in 2 or 3 pounds under the 140 lbs weight limit, and then weighing 140 lbs pounds for the fight the day after the weighin, when routinely, Hatton usually weighs in the mid 150's for his Junior Welter bouts.
