Dawson has won 2 major titles at 175. Calzaghe was a longtime WBO title holder. The WBO wasn't even considered a major belt until a few years ago.

 

He is fighting Calzone ? :yikes

 

You could turn that round and say Dawson failed to defend a belt he won because he wouldn't take his mandatory.

 

Doesn't matter the belt is still a mjor belt and looking at his resume it will be classed as a major belt when calzaghe first won it.
Lol dawson has not even had 1 fight away from america, he needs to fight some top European light heavyweight over the pond before he fights a guy in joe calzaghes calibre.

Dawson actually did fight once in the U.K. At what age did Calzaghe fight outside of the U.K for the first time?

 

Dawson defended his WBC belt 3 times I believe. He had a fight scheduled against Diaconu, and Diaconu pulled out. I'm not sure if I get your point here.

 

He got stripped of the WBC belt cause he wouldn't fight Diaconu, that is the fact. I am not making that up.
Diacuno pulled out before and I think dawson fought Ruiz instead. He had no excuse for such a lame opponent as Mendoza.
A year later Dawson got stripped for fighting Tarver instead of Diaconu. Whats your point? That Diaconu had his chance and you only get one chance to fight the great Chad unless your a washed up 40 year old who won a title from Clinton Woods.

 

I still don't think we're on the same page. I said that Dawson won 2 major titles and noted that the title Calzaghe held for 10 years just recently got recognition as a major title. You then responed by saying you could turn that around and say Dawson failed to defend the belt he won(I'm not sure how the two scenarios relate, but ok). However, Dawson did defend that WBC belt. He defended it 3 times. Yes, he did drop the belt to fight Tarver. However, he had already scheduled a fight with Diaconu. So it's not like he wouldn't fight Diaconu.

 

Can we all just ditch this thread now?

Tarver had a rematch clause.
