Trinidad, as good as he was, was a blown up WW though I do accept he was very good at 154 also.

He did destroy Joppy, but that's about as good as it got for him and by your own criteria, the schooling he recieved at the hands of Winky Wright at the weight hurts Hopkins win does it not?

Furthermore, it could easily be argued that Hopkins resume until 2004 was largely mediocre with a few notable exceptions and is wholly comparable to Calzaghes during that time. I believe you have seen my thread on the matter, and that is my opinion.

After the Taylor losses, he dared to be great, elite. Wins over Tarver and Pavlik added hugely to his record in my opinion.

However, Calzaghe has since recorded wins over Kessler and Hopkins himself, without losing as Hopkins of course has to Taylor and Joe.

It's close, as I said when comparing the two but I honestly feel that Joe's win over Hopkins gives him the edge.

That's my opinion, and I've at least attempted to justify it in the past in great detail so it's not just something I'm saying because I want it to be true: I believe it is true.

The bottomline is this, when all is said in done Hopkins will will have an honored place in the HOF, probably at the entrance.

While Calzaghe (if he bribes his way in) will get a toilet named after him, at best.

    Joe slappy?
    KO% 69.57:rofl

He is amazing considering he has maintained his speed and is using it to his full advantage.
You wouldn't even care say slappy to his face, Because he would slap you and you would have a brain bleed and be lying on your death bed with your parents next to you saying goodbye.
    Aww....Poor lil *****:|

    Hopkins.

Top wins or lower-level wins, in either area I feel he holds the edge over Calzaghe. His title challengers, generally speaking, were better than Calzaghe's (although both had their share of unqualified opponents).

Both are great fighters. It's pretty clear to me that there isn't a massive gap by any means between what each accomplished.

    Calzaghe.
Hopkins may have fought slightly better fighters but calzaghe is undefeated and has made more title defences than hopkins and has unified super middleweight division and fought away from wales more than hopkins fighting away from america.

Excellent :good Hopkins win over Tito is without question better than Joe's narrow victory over Hopkins. It's unfair to say he was unproven at MW. He knocked out Joppy easily, something both Hopkins, and Taylor failed to do.

    Hopkins.

Joe's record is as padded as a foam factory wrapped in bubble wrap and topped with marshmallow.

it all comes down to how manny hall of fame fighters they both fought and how many big fights they were both in. hopkins fought more hall of famers,on top of that he is doing a great deal to revive boxing, joes coments about money, his contradictions about not fighting and then fighting a washed up jones and his refusel to give Hopkins a rematch is only going to taint his acheivments.so therefore HOPKINS by a mile.
