This is true, but Ive never heard of this soaking, illegal trick till the Hopkins fight. I was trained and train around pretty old school folks, and its still kind of a mystery. I don't think there's a hand wrap around that gives a guy a punch like Tito, who had good form, good speed, and explosive rotation.

his perfect technique?..cmon..i like tito but his technique was far from perfect..he had punching power..you dont have to be big to throw big punches..as far illegally wrapped hands...there is obviously a wrong and right way to wrap hands..that being said i dont think thats why he knocked all those people out..his intention was obvious by the commitment yes..but his technique was exposed in the DLH and Hopkins fights

Yes perfect is not the correct word here by any means, but his technique as far as throwing punches wasn't exposed. He was one-dimensional more or less and that is what was exposed. He threw one of the prettiest left hooks you will ever see IMO.

um.... actually its true. Ive seen multiple interviews where his dad touches on this and he says that the way hopkins wanted him to wrap titos hands (which was regulation) takes away from the power (and for those that dont think wrapping can make a differance, yes... lol... it can and does)

so if his own dad whos doing the wrapping says so, ill believe him.

the only thing to me is, i didnt SEE him say this, i saw it in articles and such.... so i cant knwo 110% that its true because sometimes things get lost in translation.

of course it wont give someone a punch like tito.... but it will give someone who already has a solid punch that much more to it. And no its not the power of the actual punch its the impact when it connects....

ill look i have two great articles on it discussing the situation...

also, he was thought of illegal hand wrapping before the hopkins fight, thats why hopkins was keeping an eye out for it.

people come up with myths and legends as a method of explaining things that they can not understand.......... that is how rare Tito's power was at 147 and 154, even at 160 he could punch like a ton of bricks

Tito Destroyed Vargas, Reid, Mayorga, Campas, Pernell, Joppy amongst others.

They were never elite fighters again after Tito, fact.

It should be poetic justice to see Tito's Glass Jaw hit with his own concrete wraps. His Chin was terrible.

If so much fuzz is made by these Oscarsexuals and others about Tito's "illegal handwraps" then we should check everyone's handwraps. Tito hit hard as **** but still there have been guys who hit even harder and were never questioned about anything. The power was not an anomaly that had never been seen before. He was just good and accurate in throwing his punches and was a beast at 147-154. Just STFO. seriously. It's getting old.

Handwraps don't make much difference in a fight. They are used to protect a boxer's hands, not so much to add power. Trust me , I used to box before being sent to the first gulf war.

I was wondering when you would drop in with the "glass jaw" comment. What took you so long?

This isn't directly related to Trinidad's handwrapping but it is about hand wrapping so i hope you don't mind me highjacking your thread, but...

...in a recent issue of The Ring, Margaret Goodman (very experienced ringside doc) said that the way boxer's hands are wrapped is very dangerous for the other fighter.

She said it was like having a cast on your hand and therefore leads to more damage when punching. She said that there should be a new way of protecting the fighter's hands without adding extra power to the shots. She complained that over the years many improvements in protecting the health of boxer's have been implemented however boxers are still wrapping their hands the same way they always have and no one has looked to change this.

I have never had my hands wrapped or felt someone elses wrapped hands so could someone who has tell me if it does give extra power to your shots?

Tito is a ATG, all the haters will say he was so good beacause of his handwrrapings....-you don't no nothing about beeing in the ring. You can't get advantage with the way you wrap your hands .why are you acting so silly? You can protect your hands better if your handrraping is made right, but there is no question about giving you extrapower. Handwrrap Amir Khan like Tito and I am sure he will not have the power to KO that number of great fighters as Tito,Tyson,Duran or Hearns did.
