Who has the greater legacy, Joe Calzaghe or Bernard Hopkins?

Oh OK:good Both Hopkins and Winky's wins over Tito were great IMO. Winky's maybe less so but only due to Tito's inactivity prior to their bout.

 

I'd say so too, but one might say that Trinidad looked great against the admittedly 1 dimensional and mediocre Mayorga in his fight previous to that...I remember some prominent writers on this sites main page stating that Tito may well have it in him to beat Hopkins on the basis of it :scaredas:

However, I'd agree with your point. DINAMITA told me last week he applies this criteria across the board, so I'm simply assuming that seeing as Wright also beat Trinidad down the line, the win devalued somewhat.

 

Hopkins IMO, but its very close, both reigned as champion of their division for over 10yrs ... both became undisputed champion of their division and both went on to win a lightheavyweight title.

I think that Hopkins has the edge on quality of competition ... both divisions were talent poor during their reign ... but those welterweights moving up in weight and the addition of Jermain Taylor, Winky, Pavlik, and Tarver give Hopkins the edge in my book ...

But Calzaghe won the head to head mach up and beat one of the guys that beat Hopkins, add to that he's still undefeated.

I don't know - right now, Hopkins ... he defied the odds, beat Pavlik in his most recent bout and is still fighting good and discipline at the age of 43.

I don't think Calzaghe can do that ...

 

I believe he had the perfect opponent to make him look good in Mayorga. At the time I'd say that I myself overestimated that win as well, but it did not indicate to me that he could compete with Bernard.

 

Remember that he lost twice to Taylor.

Taylor was an undefeated Olympian ... and went on to successfully defend his title 4 times.

He was well on his way in making a mark on the sport --

But he lost, so how in any way does that benefit Hopkins resume wise?

You could say that it helps prove that Hopkins has fought superior competition, but Taylor does not improve his resume as he lost those fights.
