i dont mean as small as mits like ufc but less padding, enough to protect the hands but less to cause damage to create more ko`s in boxing bouts.
quite a lot of fights go the distance and i think more ko`s would bring more fans.
what are your thoughts on the subject?

Once upon a time, gloves were less padded. There's a reason they are more padded now.

For sure, it also leads to less brain damage because sustained beatings will be lowered. But I imagine severe hand problems would happen.

lets take a look at billy collins vs luis resto...im not gonna patornize you, but look it up you prolly heard of it.
now if you take small amounts of padding out of gloves and throw just as much wieght into them...it doesnt mean your punching more concussivly it just means your landing with a harder surface. a knockout puncher comes from a shot that the opponant didnt see coming and is usually positioned in that the other guy is so discombobulated that he is concussed....padding doesnt mean a thing. this is technique and positioning.

due to the amount of padding that was missing collins still wasnt koed and in exchange had this type of damage for the rest of his short life.....

from a pro kickboxer in my gym you dont feel much pain on your face but more inside your head with a mild headache. to me this is a clear indicator that using less padding doesnt resort to a ko but just a more distorted face....hatton usually uses 12 ounce gloves and his body punching is fantastic. body shots with less padding is very effective.

You may get an increase in KO's, but you would have an exponential rise in fights stopped because of cuts.

I think its a bad idea, I don't particularly want anyone brain damaged or seriously injured for my entertainment.

Gloves were originially padded to stop fighters from breaking their hands. Guys were more likely to break their hand on a guy's head than score a knockout.

Would more knock outs mean more brain damage victims?

If so, then my answer is no.

there is a reason why MMA fight are 15 minutes, if you get hit with those gloves more than 30 times in the head its nap time, also you can KO people with body shots with mma gloves, i

f boxing used gloves less than 16oz the fights would not last more than 3 rounds..... the whole sport of boxing would be pointless

true but the padded glove has given rise to the combination. and a sport you see today.

bareknucklers were only rated due to the amount of punishment they could sustain...you had some great skilled dancers like jem mace but still they were there to use their stamina against their opponant.

technique while fighting has been round since we were hitting 2 rocks together but a science was born with the introduction of the padded glove. it gave people a chance so they didnt break the hands and come back later into the fight. it made fights less damaging to both men and let opponants trade more without the risk of a bad cut or swelling. giving rise to a chess match instead of a waiting game.

also gloves are used as a defence which is why mma stand ups are always so far away form each other.

also why do we need as ko?

It is the force, not the padding, that causes the KO's, therefore a decrease in padding would not result in significantly more KO's. You catch an opponent flush on the chin with a punch with some leverage behind it and his head will snap and his brain will shake whether you have winter mittens on, or two-pound pillows.
I'm not so sure hand problems would increase that much by lowering the glove heft a bit. In the 1920s, an era of 6-oz. gloves, hand problems were rampant among pro fighters, but they fought a heckuva lot more often than today's fighters. (My recent book, "The Terre Haute Terror, Bud Taylor and the 1920s," expounds on this).
Taylor, incidentally, killed two of his opponents (Frankie Jerome and Clever Sencio) and ended the career of a third (George Corbett) by breaking his jaw (a career-ending injury in the 20s.) None of the three would have been saved by extra padding on the gloves. Sencio died because he could take a punch so well, and he took too many vs. Taylor, which caused his brain to bleed. Jerome died because one punch (or the accumulation) over a long bout caused the same.

So a pillow is just as likely to ko you as a shovel if they are traveling at the same speed?

What you are saying just isn't true. Anyone that watches MMA can tell you that less padding leads to much easier KOs
