Sadly, the end is nigh for Hatton.

Ricky Hatton is a welterweight by those standards.

Nice work on chucking that grenade into your bunker.

Hardly, the jr Welterweight division is well over 60 years old, whereas the Cruiserweight division was created in the early 80s in response to the increasing gap in weight between 175 and the larger, top heavyweights of the day. Foster retired WELL before there was considered a genuine need for a Cruiserweight division, Hatton started fighting 60 years AFTER the 140 weight class was recognised. See the difference?

Stop worming around and just admit you're wrong on this one.:good

Ricky Hatton is a light welterweight. That's why he fights at that weight.

My favourite animal is a snake which is close to a worm

Lightheavy to heavy was the biggest gap in boxing. Even cruiser to heavy is very large as proved by the lack of successful transitions after Holyfield. It's not quite 7lbs to fight Luis Collazo.

What do you make of Aaron Pryor not moving up to 147 in his career to take on bigger names?

Bottom line here is that 60+ years ago there was felt to be a need for jr welterweight division to bridge the gap in between lightweight and welterweight. There wasn't felt to be the same need for a cruiserweight division until ~1980. Foster is an ATG who couldn't jump one division as per your "theory", or are you modifying it that it has to be less than 7 lbs as well? Any other criteria you'd like to include so that Hatton doesn't pass your test?? Ginger hair??:patsch

Aaron Pryor's resume is terrible for a fighter of his acclaim. He did seem to try to get Leonard in there...who knows what happened. I don't believe in this ducking theory bull**** that SRL dodged him or he beat in the ams. He probably should have gone to 147 and fought a few times to give himself a better chance.

Impressive fighter nonetheless, could and should have done more.

How about Don Curry amazing at 147? Beats a titlist in Rosi at 154 and a half decent fighter in Aquino (both Collazo-esque) but thats about it.

Pryor "called out" Leonard because Leonard was the cash cow. If Pryor had been serious about the fight he'd have fought a couple of guys at 147 to force a fight. I think when Leonard noticed the retina problem training for Roger Stafford and retired, Pryor was penciled in for the next fight with SRL. They sparred as ams but never fought IIRC.

FWIW I think with his style he's have struggled with the top guys at 147 for broadly the same reasons as Hatton.

anyway to say hatton only has 2 possible fights is stupid, theres the obvious pacman or mayweather plus the winner of jmm-diaz,bradley who is good but unproven& the torres-holt 3 winner

I've just got a feeling that Hatton - Pac will not happen....I think that Pac will go after someone like Bradley at 140.

To me a Hatton - JMM match-up is much more mouthwatering, and will likely be much less of a three ring circus :good

I think Hatton has a better chance against Pac than JMM(if he carries the weight well) but it looks like a Pac fight is almost done:

I agree in that I think that JMMs counter punching prowess could cause Hatton all sorts of problems, and if JMM carries the weight well this would make for a fantastic fight and one that I would much rather watch over any Pac encounter.

You say that the Pac fight is nearly sorted, thing is there have been many a slip twixt cup and lip....watch out for a ridiculous clause in any proposed contract that Hatton will not be able to accept, weight at fight time for instance.

I really don't understand the deal that Hatton gets with some people on here. Love him or hate him (style and/or personality), the man is the best in world at 140. How can people call him a damn 'fraud'? His boxing skills are not great but the man gets the job done. He'll never be great at 147 as his frame, strength and reach nullify any advantage he has at 140. Some fighters have their 'perfect' weight. 140 is obviously Hatton's.

Why do some fighters get no respect at all from 'fans'?
