Pavlik will beat up Rubio and then he'll fight Abraham.

I hope Winky can get in this middleweight mix but he's such a tool at the bargaining table. The guy doesn't realize his value is ****.

Well, you dont want to tell me that Hopkins is still a young man,do you!

Props to the old geezer that he upset the apple card by schooling the favoured Pavlik!

As you may be able to imagine AA has surely not been that impressed by neither the old man's performance nor by Pavlik's performance.

You fixed it right there :good

But are you sure Abraham was not impressed by Bernard's performance? He would be the only one who wasn't. :blood
If he wasn't, he could have called HIM out instead of Pavlik, eh? ;)

    Arum to Rafael:

"If Kelly comes through against Rubio and has his legs back at middleweight, then we hope to make a fight with [middleweight titlist] Arthur Abraham next spring. But Kelly is coming back to 160. He showed us he's really a middleweight, not a light heavyweight."

    Sounds promising

So finally, King Arthur put Raul Marquez away... the pressure is all on Pavlik's shoulders now: he must put away Rubio as well...

However, I wasn't completely sold on Abraham this time. IMO he looked a bit slower, sloppier than usual, definitely affected by weight drain. If I could make the decision, I'd move up to 168 immidiately. I think mainly dehydration makes Abraham so economic with his punches, and a constant jabber or someone with great body punching could give him a lot of troubles. In fact, I'm not completely sure anymore that he'd put away Felix Sturm the way I thought before... Kelly Pavlik is still very hittable, but as a tough dude he is, winning on points for AA sounds a very hard task.

I believe at 168 Abraham would be busier, a bit faster, a faster starter and as we've seen, his punching power could benefit from the less dehydration.

So one more big fight at MW and it's time to move up in my opinion.

By the way the victory was still dominant, dispite a rib injury and the unfortunate retiring of Marquez, the big KO was definitely coming in a few minutes... Abraham was ready to put on the heat... just... I think there's room for Abraham to look a bit better, especially in the early rounds and the punch output category, and it definitely didn't show Saturday night.

    BRING ON PAVLIK VS ABRAHAM!!!

As I always have to say, Abraham fights up to the level of competition that is presented to him inside the ring...when he wants to prove something or is forced to do better b/c of a good/very good opponent, he's doing so as being proved vs. fighters like Ikeke or Miranda...

Abraham vs. Sturm unlikely, Team Sauerland looking for Pavlik next!

It seems both champions in Germany want no less than €3M which is $4M, and neither promotion or TV channel can afford that amount of money.

So it's clear now: King Arthur will concentrate on US fights, and Sauerland confirmed that it's Summer 2009 they are looking for the big one vs. Pavlik.

Of course Pavlik has to beat Rubio first, and if he'll does that not earlier than February 2009, I think there's a good chance for an HBO double-header, featuring the Armenian and the American champs in separate bouts. Or will Arthur get his own BAD/WCB event? The former sounds more logical from a marketability standpoint.

Sturm therefore will stick to his Germany crowds, and it seems Anthony Mundine will be looking for him early next year. The last time the 2-time world champion from Australia traveled to Germany was when he got knocked out by Sven Ottke, the only fight someone was ahead on all the official scorecards late in the fight. Of course Mundine came into the fight with a 10-0 record.

So, look for Pavlik-Rubio, Abraham vs. TBA (Duddy maybe?) early 2009, Sturm-Mundine I'd say early Summer and Pavlik-Abraham in the same month King Arthur beat Edison Miranda.

Not a bad schedule for the MW division if you ask me, hopefully these fights will happen!

this fight would produce fireworks....you can't count Abraham out because he can land something hard coming from out of his turtle shell, and Pavlik will force him into that shell with his power....i'm taking Pavlik on his level of comp and steady pressure under fire....Pavlik TKO 11 Abraham....

I've been saying 8 rounds for 2 years. After watching AA against Marquez, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kelly end it a bit sooner.

Another point to consider is that Arthur has very little experience with tall fighters. If he reaches in with his jab to the body against Kelly like he did against Ikeke, it's over in 5.

I actually admire Arthur. The guy has the balls of a rhinocerous. He proved that when he took the rematch with Miranda in Edison's front yard. The common opponent thing is not where I look to see who wins Pavlik/Abraham.

Styles make fights, and Arthur's habit of going to the ropes or into a corner when under pressure gets him beat up against Pavlik. That's right where Kelly wants his opponent; put 'em on the ropes, turn the ring into a phone booth, and unleash hell.

Arthur's low workrate gets him outworked and out hustled in every round. His short stature and really short arms make his counter punching null and void.

I do consider their common opponent on one point. The same shots that made AA look like something from a fright night movie, did not buy Miranda a blink from KP. He ate them like they were Hersheys Kisses!

Guys with iron chins and tight defenses usually don't get stopped that easily.
