Who had a better one, and why?

What was each of their defining moments, durability wise?

I'm going with LaPorte, the man went 12 rounds with Julio Cesar Chavez in a fight some still thinks he won.

Ramirez also went 12 with a more experienced Chavez. & also took Rosario's bombs & dished out his own. Ramirez for me.

LaPorte, of course, as his chin NEVER failed him, whereas Ramirez was decked in his career. LaPorte, by the way, fought EVERYBODY, and never hit the deck.

Laporte got staggered in his fight with McGuigan in the last round. It's completely overlooked. The write up in the Ring mag at the time didn't even mention it and claimed Laporte took the round, which is garbage.
I seem to remember Juan saying it was the closest he'd been to going down.

Laporte was never down and he faced guys like Chavez,Gomez,Nelson etc even when he was way past it he lasted the distance against Tzyu.

Ramirez also had a tremendous chin and was the better fighter.

Not impressed with Ramirez taking absolutely everything Rosario could throw at him?

Yes dropped , but not stopped. I believe Ramirez went on and deserved the nod in that one. Which prompted the rematch, in which Ramirez stopped Rosario in spectacular fashion.

I'd say Juan's was a tad better, but really, how can you downgrade a chin that survives Chavez, Rosario and Arguello?

Ramirez was actually dropped in the second fight, not the first. Ramirez down early comes back to stop Rosario.

Yeah, that's a pretty damn good chin.
