But race, nationality, and regionalism are some of the things that makes boxing so passionately supported by its fans.

Back in the earlier part of the 20th century, the Irish-Americans supported boxers with Irish roots, Italian-Americans supported Italian fighters, the same with the Jewish fighters. Instant, rabid fanbase. We can still see that same fire today with the British fans towards their British heroes, the Mexicans for their boxers, the Filipinos for Manny, etc.

And I think the TS asked this because Asia has had many, many great fighters throughout the years, but in the past, not a lot of them have been given as much recognition as the Mexican fighters, the Americans, the European fighters, etc. because asian fighters usually just fight fellow asian fighters their whole careers. Maybe they'll get to fight a handful of foreign boxers, and maybe they'll get to fight outside of asia. But it's rare. They may fight very good asian boxers, but they are unknown and it makes it hard to judge how good the fighters really were.

In the west, the best Euros get to fight the best US boxers, they also get to fight the best Mexican or Latino fighters. Because of that, the fans can better gauge how good a fighter was, from how well they performed against other great, well known fighters.

Why do we have Orient-Pacific champions?

    North American boxing titles?

    Fede-Latin titles, European champions, etc.

Yeah, they're all minor belts, but you get a general idea who's the best up and coming fighters are, before they reach the bigtime, world stage.

Asian fighters dont get as much recognition, outside of the true boxing geeks.

This is probably why this thread got started. Asking who's the best fighter to have come out of asia.

I dont think the TS intended this to be a "segregated" boxing thread and he thinks that asian boxers are inferior.

It's just hard to gauge how good an asian fighter is, especially if he didnt get to fight regularly in the west against the established and famous fighters.

Pongsaklek Wongjongkam has one of the most impressive looking career records of any fighter, anywhere, but some fans still think he's overrated because he only fights at home.

This thread isnt segregating asian fighters, this is concentrating on asian fighters.

Chuck Nooris was green and Bruce Lee was in his prime when they fought.

Nooris has learned an uncanny amount of abilities since that fight.

    Nice breakdown.

When one contextualises things like how good the fighters actually were at the time of the fight (rather than how big their reputation and name were), the fact that superfly and superbantam divisions didn't exist in Harada's day, the fact that there was only one champ per weight division and not 3, 4 or however many there are today, and when one has actually seen both fighters fight through extensive footage, one gets a clearer picture of where they both belong.

Unfortunately, not many besides sweet pea have access to such a gaze, and as such they will be mired in their ignorant, short-sited, nut-hugging perspectives and continue to think and type through their asses.

This thread has been useful for nothing other than showing up the myopia of most of the general forum, something that hardly needed proving.

everyone can do research on their own with the beauty of the internet. but the mere fact that sweet pee had all the excuses next to pacs victory (re-read again his breakdwon with red) proves that the man is a sore loser who is just aching for every pacs achievement... again, it is easy to read and understand what is on the net. mind you, look at his description of harada's victory. seems evrything is superlative :rofl

If it was so easy you would have done it and probably agreed with the analysis Sweet Pea put forward...but obviously you havent and you continue to prove your ignorance on this topic and just about everything you comment on.

They were not excuses...they were putting those wins into context...something you dont seem to understand.
Sure he painted Pac's opponants in a more negative light then Harada's but it was to drill a point into the bias skulls of the *******s like yourself ..Im getting sick of having to critique my favourite fighter because his over the top fanboys cant see any faults in him. Id rather just sit back and appreciate his career unfold but not whilst people just disregard the greats who have come before him. I wouldnt consider myself a true fan of the sport if I did.

Thing is though everything he says there is true.

And whatsmore, he has qualifications for Harada's wins as well if you read the post in it's entirety. For example, he says that Jofre had trouble making weight, Medel was starting to fade, Ebihara was young etc.

You may think calling fights like Kingpetch II and Famechon I robberies shows favouratism, but all one has to do is watch the fights and see that Sweet Pea is right. Harada DID get robbed in those fights. There should be no question to an objective observer.
