What I find really strange about this whole Calzaghe conundrum is his fans. I think it must be bound up with a UK football fan mentality - 'we support blindly and forevermore irrespective of behaviour and values'. You see, I am a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao, I count myself as big a fan of his as anyone on here is of Joe Calzaghe. - However, if Manny suddenly announced he was to fight Erik Morales or Jose Luis Castillo (ie, someone clearly shot to **** for some time now - like Jones Jr has been for years), I would be disgusted and would be very vocal about that (and Pac didn't even write in his autobiography that Morales or Castillo was shot as far back as FOUR YEARS ago!!). I don't think I observed that reaction from ANY Calzaghe fan on this forum. Most were overjoyed at the prospect of him fighting a legend :-(, others seemed perfectly content that he was taking part in such a sorry sham. - If when the question was put to Pac about having a rematch with someone he won a close, unconvincing SD over (in his case JM Marquez, in Joe's it's Hopkins) he said that he and his dad "didn't believe in rematches" when they had already rematched someone (in Pac's case Barrera, in Calzaghe's case the magnificent Mario Veit), I would again be disgusted and would say so. It's just very obvious lies. I could go on and on all day about the way Calzaghe handles himself and his career both in the ring and out, but the point is clear: he treats his own fans with contempt, he lies and evades, and yet his fans won't hear a word against him. I have never observed fans of any other fighter behaving in this way en masse the way Calzaghe's do. It's bizarre. Why so???
He is one of the most spoken-about fighters on this forum, always is. The great divider of opinions these days, now that PBF is retired.
Why would I be jealous? My own favourite fighter is generally accepted to be a greater fighter than Calzaghe. Try again.
Doesn't this thread really highlight your problem in that you aren't getting anywhere with these so called "fans" and it might be time to call it a day? And what is the best you are hoping for out of a thread like this, where you pretty much tag Calzaghe's fans as football hooligans? Do you think you are going to get something productive out of that? Come on, this is nonsense it really is.
The only thing that bothers me about Calzaghe fans is that want him to retire. Like they are afraid of him losing his 0 more then he is, even if he never fought top notch comp in his career. Its mind boggling.
i don't blindly follow joe. but all fighters have their special fans. pac jmm dlh Wk TITO kessler RJJ TYSON ALI the list can go on
